According to the Gospel of Luke, Jesus begins to announce his evangelizing mission with a prophecy of the prophet Isaiah:
"The spirit of the Lord is on me
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19
This prophecy of the prophet Isaiah has a very profound spiritual message, "The spirit of the Lord is on me" means that God gave Jesus the wisdom to teach, rehabilitate, enlighten and guide, to those who accept his testimony. The wisdom is way, truth and life ("I am the way and the truth and the life", John 14:6), is way because is progressive, is truth because is precision and accuracy, and when life is not enough to do good wisdom is life ( for example the white lies).
Wisdom opposes oppression (injustice) and the teaching of error (heresy), that is why the prophecy says: "He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners" and "to set the oppressed free".
Oppression is not only something physical but it is also deception and lies; many times people do evil because of ignorance. Education allows people to make better decisions and achieve the common good through reason by avoiding passions such as hatred.
Jesus also comes to give sight to the blind, to be blind in the Bible is to lack God's guidance, the blind stumbles because he does not see the true path: "If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit", Matthew 15:14.
After teaching this prophecy of Isaiah in the synagogue, Jesus says: "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing", Luke 4:21. And in front of the reaction of the listeners in the synagogue, Jesus exclaims: "Truly I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country", Luke 4:24. Jesus is telling us with this message that the good news of the Kingdom of God is intended for the pagan peoples.
