The prophet Elijah: You have abandoned the LORD's commands and have followed the Baals. 1 Kings 18:18

The Bible in the Book of Kings tells us how Elijah faced the priests and prophets of Baal to demonstrate who was the true God. Ahab was king of Israel and his wife was called Jezebel, this woman was of Phoenician origin, and promoted the religious cults of her country in Israel, Jezebel cruelly persecuted all the prophets of the Lord. Many Israelites had abandoned fidelity to the Lord and the law of Moses, and the situation had reached a very critical point, not only because of the sins of Ahab and his wife, but also because a great drought had broken out in the region.
And it was then that the Lord in his infinite providence decided to put an end to idolatry in Israel and end the drought that the country was suffering. The Lord addressed Elijah, so he, as a true prophet could confront the false prophets and demonstrate who the true God was. And as a consequence, Elijah then met Ahab, who was going through the country in search of water.
And so were the words between the prophet Elijah and Ahab, which reminds us that idolatry is a serious sin:
"When he saw Elijah, he said to him, ´Is that you, you troubler of Israel?´
´I have not made trouble for Israel,´ Elijah replied. ´But you and your father's family have. You have abandoned the LORD's commands and have followed the Baals. Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table.´" 1 Kings 18:17-19.
Then Elijah and the prophets of Baal each separately assembled a holocaust, each one called upon his God, fire fell from heaven, and only Elijah's offering was consumed by fire. Elijah demonstrated to the eyes of Israel which was the true God, to change the hearts, and correct the simple people from the path of error.
