The prophet Isaiah: If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land. Isaiah 1:19

The book of Kings tells us that the prophet Isaiah was present during the fall of the Kingdom of Israel into the hands of the Assyrians and the deportation of its population; but he also prophesied before King Hezekiah the salvation of Jerusalem when it was besieged by another Assyrian king, Sennacherib. The Kingdom of Judah, for the fidelity of some of their kings, survived the relentless Assyrian empire but the Kingdom of Israel did not.
And like all major prophets, he left a book with a clear message. The prophet denounced that the vineyard of the Lord had not produced its fruits, and that God as a vinedresser was willing to throw all this vineyard into the fire. Israel and Judah had adopted the customs of their neighbors, especially idolatry, and had forgotten their covenant with the Lord.
God through Isaiah asked for a conversion of hearts, because the law is summarized in a very important principle: "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man", Ecclesiastes 12:13. The word is useless if there are no renewed hearts to receive it.
The prophet Isaiah, at the beginning of his book, took up a teaching from the Book of Psalms, the Psalm 1, the psalm of the two paths, and the teaching is very simple, men have to choose between beatitude and misfortune:
"If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the good things of the land;
but if you resist and rebel,
you will be devoured by the sword" Isaiah 1:19-20.
Peace and security are elusive goods to those who choose error, the prophet taught; error leads man down uncertain paths: "But your iniquities have separated you from God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear", Isaiah 59:2. The peace and the safe life are blessings that are born from the fruition of the gift of the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability).
