What you see above here are BitcoinMalaysia playing cards that have just been made to help newbies in Malaysia get to know about the cryptocurrency space in general.
I want to make one for the STEEM community because
- It is a quick and fun way for newbies to get to know the people behind the STEEM blockchain.
- It is a sticky physical item people can take home and do their research on their own time.
- It can be a promotional tool for the diversity and current success stories built on top of STEEM.
I can make this a reality in time for the Steemfest this November with your support!
HF21 just kicked in and I wish to be one of the first to submit a proposal in the new Steem proposal system.
The Idea Behind the Playing Cards
This idea isn't original but it took a lot of hardwork, coordination effort to make it into reality. The idea was inspired by a door gift I received when visiting a Longhash event in Singapore, June this year. Displayed proudly atop a table in the VIP lounge, each card had a unique character on it representing someone who did or is doing something share-worthy in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space.
What a fun and creative way to educate who is who in the cryptocurrency space in just one glance!
It was soooo popular that each VIP took 2-3 packs home each.
So, when I got back from Singapore, I contacted LongHash and they were sporting to allow us to replicate this idea for our country. We are also grateful to get some of earliest support from Andreas Antonopoulos, Charles Hoskinson, CZ of Binance, @bitrocker2020, @coingecko, Etherscan & HelloGold to be on our cards.
3 months of hardwork later, our efforts have become a reality and the Malaysian cryptocommunity feels like a stronger family.
Proposal for STEEM
While it took 3 months for us to make this for our country, I believe we can make a new set of playing cards in time for STEEMFEST in November because
- We have gained experience having done this before.
- We have filtered the China manufacturers that can make this at the best cost and quality.
- Our artist @sireh has developed a system of producing the art more efficiently.
The Process
- (2 Sep - 9 Sep) Nomination of the 52 characters + 2 Jokers to be featured on the STEEM playing cards for 2019/2020 collection.
- (10 Sep - 7 Oct) Complete artwork of 52 characters + 2 Jokers
- (10 Sep - 7 Oct) Voting the position of the 52 characters e.g. A♠️, A♥️, A♣️, A♦️
- (7 Oct - 28 Oct) Manufacture, quality checks and receive delivery.
- (6 Nov - 10 Nov) Distribute 50% of inventory to attendees for FREE at STEEMFEST. Distribute 30% inventory to key media channels e.g. Cointelegraph, Asia Blockchain Review & crypto celebrities to promote STEEM. Distribute 10% inventory to bookshops to entice them to display them at the cryptocurrency sections of their retails stores.
Because this product for the STEEM community is untested and we are unsure whether it will gain traction that people will demand significant volume of this product, we seek the community's support to help vote this project so that we can fund the manufacture of the minimum order quantity of 1,000 packs and cover the costs of our efforts to make this a reality.
Format of each Card
Each card features one personality who represents a project you nominate. On the top right of the card is a QR code that links to a URL to that project e.g. Splinterlands.
Funding Request
10,000 SBD
Daily pay request: 250 SBD x 40 days
Start payments: 2 September 2019 (you can already vote now)
End payments: 13 October 2019
We are asking for 10 SBD per pack to create beautiful customised playing cards that highlight the current success stories that are built on the STEEM blockchain. Because it really involves a lot of effort to make this a success, we hope we gain the community support to create this beautiful product and that it can then be given for everyone for FREE at Steemfest this year!
Woot Woot!!! Go go go!!

For what exactly are these 10k SBD? I can't imagine that high costs for producing a card game.. basically just the design of the cards..

We believe 9USD pp is inexpensive for the product we want to create.
Firstly, it costs 10-15USD to make customised playing cards here in Malaysia and the quality is only 'meh'. Thus, sourcing from China allows us to make this cheaper and high quality.
However this means we need to spend a lot more time and effort to ensure every tiny detail is delivered to expectation. Anyone who has worked with China suppliers before can attest that this is true and communication is a challenge. We are also confident in delivering this product by November because should there be hiccups, we have immediate reliable comparative suppliers too. We have done our research with who is responsive, friendly, reliable and who is not.
We all want the lowest price but the lowest price often is not the best option.
Lastly, it would cost 2,000USD on top of manufacturing to draw 54 caricatures full color and high resolution. We are very lucky to have an artist willing to do this at half the cost. He is passionate about crypto, a fellow steemian @sireh, and we work well together. Because we have had success before, he has developed a process of delivering the artwork efficiently. And one more thing I want to say about this guy, his caricatures is some of the best I've ever seen IMO. This is subjective and up to the community to decide. I believe he can draw in a way that will do each character proud. And he listens and is responsive to feedback despite being a full time lecturer for a university.
I don't know if you can find anyone else right now who would put in the heart and sweat to deliver this by November. But I'm sincere to make this happen if I can get yours and the community support. 👍

Okay - sounds really cool.
But sorry - I still think we've got to get some fundamental things right on here.. We want a decentralized platform but run after one centralized dev entity.. First things first.
Before we didnt accomplish true decentralization, I dont get what people wanna market.
We first need a good product, then the people come. Not the other way around..

Super awesome! I want to see how I can source 10 SBD first but will keep you in contact later.
I am making customised greeting cards via @craftsofluv for orders and will be delivered on Steemfest!
Kudos to @sireh with his fantastic art piece!

Cool proposal! Are you getting an error submitting it to the Proposal system? I can't get mine to
The error doesn't seem to make sense and I have messed with the Permlink a bunch but it won't take it.

It is strange because it seems like a few posts got through and I'm not sure how.

Another guy figured it out. For the Permlink just use
i-want-to-make-steem-collectible-playing-cards-in-time-for-steemfest-support-please
Don't put the whole URL or @buzz.lightyear or any of that in there . I got mine to work like that.
Good luck!
