YOU HAVE TO KILL HIM, IT IS NOT A CRIME.
I could still remember what my mentor told me, the day ask him what it takes to be a successful person. He said “boy you have to kill him first, it is not a crime, I mean procrastination, and you need to start making positive use of your time, that is the only secret of success that I know”. With time I have tested this to be true.
Do you still remember that nursery school rhyme? Tick says the clock, tick, tick, what you have to do, do quick, that rhyme we were made to memorize when we were kids; the life of adulthood and it lies has watered down this very truth and has made us deaf to time ticking away.
A second that you play with, does not really matter until it slips into a minute, then into one hour, it rolls into two hours and before you know it, it’s a day of mediocrity, you keep on repeating this for 7 days, before you know it’s 31 days, the next month you thank God that you will start a new life entirely, since the cord of bad is very had to break, before you know it what happened last month is happening again. You promise yourself that the next month will be better by God grace, like that, like that one year unaccounted for has passed. You quickly plan for another year, thinking you can make things right. But this is a bad habit that we are talking about, which is easy to form but hard to break.
Twenty years or more down the line, we all of a sudden woke up to the painful reality, that some years had been used to pursue what we don’t want, to choose wrong friends, we smoke and dance away our time in night clubs, many years have been used to position our ladder in a wrong wall, a whole lot of time is wasted in things we should not be doing at all, while we forget the things that matter most in life. We try to change, but the cord of bad habit is hard to break. We need change, we have to change, but how easy is it to break from bad habit. Note that the easiest way to break a bad habit is not starting it at all.
How did this bad habit start? I’ll tell you, it started with a split of second of considering that you can do that thing when you wake up, after watching that match, when you decided to push that event which would have been done now to tomorrow; it started with a second toyed with, a minute wasted in sleep. Mind you, you must have seven hours of sleep, for rest, you will do it in your grave for many years without being troubled, now is time to work.
If you don’t kill him (procrastination) you are wasting your future away; if you don’t kill him, the cords of the habit will wrap around you. It is better to switch off the TV today so that many will watch you in the same TV tomorrow. It is better for you to start reading something positive and productive instead of letting the moment to pass by like that. Remember “the only moment we have in eternity is now” said Emerson.
Don’t let that second slip away unaccounted for; don’t spend your moment doing the wrong thing. Kill him (procrastination) before he kills you, kill him he is a thief of time, kill him(procrastination) it is not a crime. Also remember “tick says the clock tick, tick, what you have to do, do now”.
For easy steps to kill procrastination, I will refer you to my last post. Thanks, I love you all.
