Jar Of Memories- Pro-shots Smartphone Photography Contest

in proshots •  7 years ago  (edited)

July 6, 2017, exactly 8:42 in the evening, I took a picture of this. A jar with oil inside and a piece of rag with a little fire on it serves as our light for how many days. Why? What have happened?

A 6.5 magnitude hit our place causing 4 deaths and 100 injuries. The quake also caused power interaction in the whole eastern Visayas and nearby Bohol. Having no light for many days is really hard. As we notice, almost all things today were run by electricity. For many days, it seems unusual that I haven't hold my phone while before I always have it on my hand, everyday! Sometimes, it's hard to get some sleep because there's no electric fan to give some air from being hot and humid. Plus, add the unfading love of mosquito suitor of mine who always go near me, keeps singing into my ear and tasting how sweet my blood is. Hahaha. No music to listen whenever I want to be alone and many more. But we can do many things when light isn't accessible. Since there's no phone in my hand, I had more opportunity to talk to my family. Exchanging stories, laughs, jokes makes us feel better that we could've not notice that it was already late in the evening. I'd really cherished those memories. Without light and fan is really quite challenging but as day passes, I get used to it. I did get some sleep and I can live without it though. Whenever I get bored because there's no TV, my boredom comforter is reading some spiritual publications like bible.(I'm not bragging myself to be holy, but what I said is really true). I have much of time to ponder things that helps me realized why this is really happening. It was being prophesied in the bible. In Matthew 24:7,8 says that it's going to happen. Indeed! All of those where happening today, we witnessed a lot of quake not today, not just here but around the world. It isn't really funny after all. And a life without music from phone? I just sing by myself and made realized that i have a good voice. Hahaha.

The reason why I choose this picture, because it is very memorable to me.

Though some us here in Leyte were affected so hard by this calamity, I choose to think and see what the good memories it gave me. Like what the memory of this picture has made me. I learned so much more while electricity is off. I learned to think more positive even the situation around is clearly distressing.

How about you? What do you usually do when electricity is gone? Can you share?

So much. But we get used to it. 😁

It brings back the good times and bad times! Good times is that we talk with each other, not holding any gadgets, and we sleep very early. After eating and washing the dishes, it's sleeping time! But it's hard without electric fan, especially with our little Thirdy. 😓

What a positive blog. We can always find good in the bad if we look. I am sorry for the loss of life and all the damage, but rejoice at the new memories you are making without a phone in the hand. I am resteeming @zhayie03.
