Protect Our Girls

I was in Afuze, Owan East Local Government of Edo State today concerning the abuse of a 14year old girl by a 66years old man. What i gathered was disturbing to say the least. First, the result of the pelvic scan done on the victim is pictured below

Report by the mother of the child showed that the child was rushed to the hospital last week when she started having offensive vaginal discharge. The child was said to have collapsed twice before getting to the hospital. The pelvic scan led to questions and after her mum forced her and threatened her, she confessed how Mr Ijezei Nibel had defiled her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The man in question Mr. Ijezei Nibel was in November 2017 accused of sexually harassing his 17 year old step daughter. According to Mr Friday Bello who was accused of abduction of the girl by Mr Nibel, after series of interrogation at the State Headquarters, Benin Mr Nibel confessed to having sexual intercourse with the two sisters-his step daughters (presently aged 21 and 17) an affair said to have started over 10years. The case didn't see the light of day as girl's father agreed to 'settle' out of court. An incident said to be abnormal by the father who had previously confessed to have received a death threat message from Mr Nibel

At the Afuze Divisional Police Headquarters, an Inspector I spoke with complained about Mr Nibel and how he is presently accusing the police before The Area Command Auchi of 'stealing' N50,000.00 when they came to his house to invite him to the station for questioning after the Child confessed in the hospital. Mr Nibel is termed to be a 'notable professional petition writer' and has used this to get himself off many crimes and implicated innocent people. As his way of intimidating his victims' family, Nibel reported this case in Area Command Auchi and the mother of the child was detained by the Auchi Area Command IPO, Sgt Lucky who is suspected to be a relative to Mrs Nibel, who was also there to accuse the Afuze police command of theft.

It was this detaining of the mother of the victim that got us involved to seek for justice on this case. Presently, the Vice Chairman of Owan East Local Government has picked interest on the case including an NGO present in Benin City-this is possible because we went all out to speak for the voiceless.

I also met with the PRO of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) who promised to get us the profile of Mr Nibel concerning his previous work and the reason for his dismissal from service. It is gathered that he was dismissed because of sexual assault.

I visited another victim reported to have been impregnated by Mr Nibel and was chased with a cutlass by Mrs Nibel who is termed as an accomplice even as her children from her previous marriage are victims.

The need more voices to bring this inhumane people to book. They are destroying the future of this universe that lie in the belly of the girl child. When i asked the doctor to explain the scan, she said if the infection eats up the womb of the child, she might not be able to conceive in life.
