Exploring the Frontiers of Psychedelics

in psychedelics •  6 years ago  (edited)

If you'd see my YouTube feed at the moment, it would show only crypto and mushroom related clips...

That's because a few months ago I began to think of the Bitcoin blockchain as a natural network - like trees or mushrooms.

I started googling for proof of that and found all sorts of things that supported this belief, and well, in the process I learned loads of other things that I didn't even set out to learn! Fast forward a few weeks and now I'm deeeep into the rabbit hole of the fascinating subject of "mushrooms" and "psychedelics".

Right in time, it seems. It has reached my awareness just as it's about to go mainstream, with more and more public conversations and even documentaries coming out.

After the legalisation of marihuana, it looks like we'll be calling for a legalisation of psilocybin, MDMA and DMT soon. And we should. It's appalling to think that these substances are illegal (though not surprising why...) and that we've all been misinformed about them.

Here is an interesting conversation between authors Tim Ferris an Michael Pollan from SXSW 2019:

Psychedelics can cure PTSD, addictions, depression

YouTube is full of personal accounts of this. It's also a topic on every other Joe Rogan Podcast episode. Some work so fast, that you only need to do them once and your depression is gone. Many describe it as the single most powerful spiritual experience of their lives.

Sadly, most people (have to) do self-experiments, which may or may not be safe, and of course some do it just for fun and entertainment and use psychedelics as a party drug. I guess that's fine for some substances and in safe doses, but with others people can have really really bad trips, so everyone should only do this in environments they feel super safe in. Preferably with a guide or a trusted person.

If psychedelics were legalized, there could be official treatment centers, with professional guidance. Not only could lives and communities be changed and utterly positively impacted by this, but our whole world would transform.

Because the main result psychedelics give you - in whatever shape or form - is a sense of connection with all that is, and a dissolution of the ego. If everyone did that, it would probably stop all wars over night. Many people report that the corny notion of "love is all that matters" doesn't sound so corny anymore after you come "down" from your trip, but seems more like an absolute profound truth.

Of course love isn't nearly as profitable as war. That's why these magical substances must be made illegal... Which really is a joke, when you think about it, since we produce e.g. DMT in our own bodies. Some psychedelics are literally our nature.

There is no funding for psychedelics research

Surprise surprise.

Nobody is interested in a drug that cures people the first time they take it. It's much more profitable to have a drug that can be patented and sold, and that people will continuously need more supplies of. The damage to the pharmaceutical industry would just be too big...

In the last 20min of the conversation above, Tim Ferris calls for people to support research in this area and shares these two documentaries, which are being released in the coming days:

Trip of compassion - A documentary on treating mental health issues with psychedelics

Fantastic Fungi - The Mushroom Movie

People don't have to be millionaires to fund those studies, especially not with crowdfunding.

Hopefully some big crypto winners will facilitate some of this research in the future.

Another reason we need a bull market... ;)
