Thanks, interesting potential debate!

Would we be empathic to a crying robot? Many films try to induce that behaviour - I wonder why? ;-)

Of course we could.
People cry when their favorite mug breaks to pieces. Not because the mug is hurt, but because they experience sadness over "losing" something that is important and represented by a mug, like an event (memory of a vacation), or a personal relationship (mug as a gift)...

It's not about being emotionally conected to a robot, it's about being emotionally connected to whatever the robot is crying about.
