Unsolicited Advice • Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

in psychology •  7 years ago  (edited)

It’s so terribly hard to not compare yourself to others, let's start with that.

On your good days, your brain quickly reminds you that comparing yourself to others is useless, because, well, it's impossible to measure everything with the same metric. Therefore, a comparison is ridiculous. And on those days, you pay attention.

But on your bad days, your mind gets the best of you, and you hate everything you are doing with your life. It appears as if nothing you do is good enough and you enter an infinite loop of feeling like shit for comparing yourself to others and not being able to fix it because, there's just no use.

I always thought comparisons were always unfair, no matter which measuring tape you are using. And mostly, it's because we know the efforts we've put into our lives, but we don't see any outcomes. And in other people's lives, their results are everywhere; especially, social media.

Future is a monster under your bed that you think it will pull you down to hell if you dare to look at it. Yes, it scary and only a few people have the guts to actually look at it, and you know what they see? NOTHING. They were afraid of something that never even existed. The fear is what gives you anxiety. Be scared of wasting your present to the fears of something that doesn’t exist.

You’re smarter than that

Comparison is a stark illusion. Whatever you know about someone you will never grasp what he sacrificed in his path. Paths are different, potential is different.
