Sometimes when things go right I ask my self what's the catch now? That happiness and good things seem like too good to be true for me now...

But then I agree that happiness is right here, right now, chasing after it by changing our location, asking people to change and other external factors will only lead to further disappointment.

There's the Edmond Dantes in us, but only those who have gone through it all and refused to quit will reap the rewards eventually. Reward in life not only in terms of success or monetary equivalent but becoming a well-rounded person, strong and unshakeable. That's enough of a reward for me.

It is a very nuanced thing, our bran, and the thoughts and images and feelings it can create in just a one hour span. Being ablr to observe these things within a different perspective is mind blowing and empowering.

A wonderful comment as always @diabolika!

The world we live in sells us this narrative that happiness is fickle, and even dangerous, so we all need to become, as you say, strong and unshakeable, to be able to enjoy it without self-introduced blowback!

So few understand this my friend. Great insight.

"Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." "The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." "Nothing in life is to be feared. Wow a good read! Thank u for sharing. :-)
Happiness is truly scary, because In just a short while it's accompanied by something sad or something terrifying.
However I rather enjoy the happy moments then regret them passing.
Each human is insecure and fearful , I think we all have a Edmond Dante's in us .

So true my friend.

I really, really need to read this novel. And I had no idea that Jim Caviezel had played the part too!

The 2002 movie with Jim is good, but the book is mindblowing (make sure to read the complete edition - Robin Buss translation).

Wow. Something to think about. Thank You.

Eloquent. I'm going to have to make time to read that book. For some reason, I've read multiple scifi riffs on it: Jack Vance's Demon Princes saga, Alfred Bester's magnificent Stars My Destination but never the original itself.

The lessons are definitely universal; you'd be surprised at how many people are failures because they are genuinely afraid of success.

Yes, I loved The Stars My Destination too!

Most people who have read The Count of Monte Cristo, haven't actually read the real book, but most likely an abridged version that ripped out its soul and its guts. I recommend the Penguin edition, Robin Buss translation.

Will always Remember and live with this ....
It told me that I had the power to rise up from any and all circumstances.
It told me that happiness was the only true measure of success.
It told me that life gives me exactly what I need to become what I want to be.
It told me that the reason I didn’t have what I wanted most, is because a part of me was afraid to death of the consequences of getting what my heart most desired.
