Greetings Human and Feline Friends!
So what's the deal with a CAT having a blog? And what does that even MEAN? A cat can't have a blog...
That's better! Now you see things from my level!
Anthropomorphism: Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human traits, emotions, or intentions to non-human entities. It is considered to be an innate tendency of human psychology.
When you were little, did your favorite teddy bear or dolly "talk?"
I'm pretty sure most people will answer "yes" to that question. Then — somewhere along the way — you learned that the "voices" you attributed to your stuffed toys were not "real." And that it was just "make believe" play. But it seemed very real, all the same.
Let's fast forward to human adulthood:
Sometimes I like to rest on the backs of chairs...
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are an estimated 74 million cats and 70 million dogs living in homes in the USA, alone!
That's 144,000,000 furry friends!
Now consider how many more there are, if we go worldwide!
Do you think it's likely that most of their Human companions talk to them on a daily basis, even "imagining" that sometimes those cats and dogs have "voices" of their own?
If there's a feline or canine companion in your home, you know perfectly well that you talk to them, and that your furry friends have "personalities" and various human attributes you're projecting onto them.
We can also be pretty sure — probably 99% of the time — that you do NOT suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder or Schizophrenia.
In a sense, your conversations are extensions of the Human ability to anthropomorphize almost anything. Remember "Wilson" from the movie Castaway?
Yes, but why a Cat Blog?
Well, maybe a better question is "why a cat blog that tries to be more than just cute photos and perhaps veterinarian health care advice for cats?"
Good question! Glad you asked!
Upside down selfie!
Sometimes, the only way we can "hear" something is when it comes from an unexpected source.
A classic example is the Middle Ages, where the court jester was often the only person who could gentle criticize and poke fun at the king... without losing his head in the process.
In 2018, some of the most incisive political commentary comes not from PBS, but from the Comedy Channel.
Similarly, occasional "life wisdom" and "advice" has a way of potentially reaching a different audience — and actually being heard — when presented through the "voice" of an innocent looking little cat! You may not be ready to hear something if it's coming from some psychologist or philosopher... but from a CAT?
Aside from which, there is actually a lot Humans can learn from cats — especially when it comes to de-stressing and learning to Zen with the trials and tribulations of life.
So those are a few thoughts about cats blogging and the "voice" of the cat! Since I am all about engagement and dialogue, I'd love to hear your comments!
Have a beautiful day!
My kitties have taught me so much. We take care of each other! But yeah, I totally imagine conversations like this:

Thank you! Those are hilarious... and also alarmingly real. The other cat who lives here is retarded. I keep trying to tell the humans...

I heard about anthropomorphism not that long ago! I've been at home for the past 6 months with my cat Sasha and we have really grown closer. I can identify what her meows mean more now :P It's mostly: I want food, pet me, take me outside, play with me!
