Are You A Dog Person or A Cat Person?

There is a lot to say about personality tests.
One of the most popular is The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). According to The Myers & Briggs Foundation: “The purpose of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) personality inventory is to make the theory of psychological types described by C. G. Jung understandable and useful in people's lives”.

This is not a scientific post, but MBTI has supposedly been debunked and is not considered to have very high validity or have any scientific basis.
According Roman Krznaric: “If you retake the test after only a five-week gap, there's around a 50% chance that you will fall into a different personality category.”

I have always been INTP (The Logician) in the MBTI.
I am indeed a very logical person.

INTPs is also very inventive and creative. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor type, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history.

I have a sense that all the recent critique agains the MBTI is not totally justified.

You also have the rorschach test where you analyse inkblots.

But be careful, it you interpret the inkplots in a certain way, you may even be diagnosed as a psychopath!

There are also a plethora of personality inventories and checklists that psychiatrists and psychologists use everyday to diagnose people so they can give them drugs ( @sterlinluxan How Psychiatry Stigmatizes Everyone).

The bottomline is that psychology as a field is probably not very scientific at all.

Are you a dog person or a cat person?

I often ask people this questions, especially on dates.
It might look like a trivial questions, but my own opinion is that there is often huge differences between a person that prefer dogs vs. cats as a companions.

Not too strange if you think about it:
Dogs are very social animals and lives in a hierarchy.
The are very dependent, social and seek contact with any other dog or human.

Cats on the other hand have per definition never been tamed. They just came to us because of the rodents (easy food). They are very independent and shy.

I personally dislike dogs. I find them clingy, and you even have to pick up their poo all the time.

The Typical Dog Person

• Self-disciplined
• Strong sense of duty
• Tend to be “planners"
• Outgoing
• Enthusiastic
• Positive
• Energetic
• Trusting
• Altruistic
• Kind
• Affectionate
• Sociable

The Typical Cat Person

• Curious
• Creative
• Artistic
• Nontraditional thinkers
• Easily stressed
• Anxious
• Worriers

I think I nail every traits of the ‘the typical cat person’. What about you?

Maybe the main difference between a dog person and a cat person is ‘extraversion’ vs ‘introversion’.
But on the other hand I guess the average AmStaff owner is somewhat different from the average Chihuahua owner.
A saying is that the dog and the owner are similar. I think there is something in this.

Maybe we should have a combined dog vs. cat person and MBTI.

I suppose it would look like this:

Cat person: INTP, INFP, ISFP, ISTP, INTJ, INFJ, ISFJ, ISTJ
Dog person: ENTJ, ENFJ, ESFJ, ESTJ, ENTP, ENFP, ESFP, ESTP

What Myers-Briggs Type are you? Are you a cat or a dog person?
Do my list resonate with you?

Thank you for your time and attention. Steem on!

mmmm... sometimes I wish my dog was a cat. Can't really say I'm one or the other. Cats are too jumpy, dogs too all over the place.
This MBTI thing sounds interesting. Personality tests are always fun, I'll check that one out thank you :)

Well, I'm lowkey scared of dogs. But they are both really cool animals. I can't pick which one I like more :P

If you are scared of them you are probably not a dog person.

Cats by far. Just adding extra stress to life doesnt seem like a good idea to me. Having to have to walk that dog every morning, evening and night, having it run around the house, beg for food, always having to have it with me wherever I go - making other people roll their eyes. Nah..dog life seems to me like less freedom for the human. :)

I am not surprised that you are a cat person at all. Creative, non-traditional+++ Cool:)!
Maybe cat persons are more minimalistic to? People I know that love dogs often intentionally (imo) create lot of extra hassle for them selves.

Hehe, maybe they are. My only libertarian friend has a dog, and he's definitely not a minimalist. Exactly. I grew up with dogs, and there was just so much hassle with it. My dad was a horrible dog person, and the dogs were ultra stressed. I'm sure other people can have more harmonic relationships with their dogs. But still, there is so much added stress with a dog. I chose a human clone (child) instead, which adds me much more value to life than a dog. But it's stressful enough, so I would never disable myself any more by adding a dog into the equation. Our cat is just give food and pick flått. And give him some occasional kos when he shows up after a day in the woods.

I took the MBTI test 3 times in the course of 1 year and a half and every time I got INTJ. :)

I think I prefer cats more because they are more independent, but I got this sweet thing and I absolutely love her. :)

Nice. INTJ is the architect and supposedly that rarest of the personality types (0,8%).
You probably like both dogs and cats then.

60% cats - 40% dogs :)

I am a dog person and the traits mentioned, sound just like me.

Yes, I often find that people are typically dog or cat person. Are you leader like or a leader perhaps?

In my career, I have been a leader Is that what you are
Asking?

I think I am more of a dog person and I've done the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator before and I'm pretty sure I was one of the Extroverted personalities so it seems pretty accurate.

I do not know you personality that good. But you look very extroverted to me:)

Dog one.

Cool!

I think I love cats and dogs equally :)

That is not possible... You have to choose one:)

Doges are cool but cats rain supreme. I think it is too much of a generalization to say that all cat or dog people (and many like both) are a certain way. I'd agree with most of the social inferences, but when it comes qualities like intelligence, ethics, character I'd say that is over reaching.

I like both. I have had cats most of my life and also have had dogs.
I like cats because the are pretty much self sufficient but I also like dogs because they are much more friendly. As far as the MBTI goes I used to lean towards the I's but now it is pretty much split between the I's and the E's.
Interesting post.

I am a cat person because you have to work for their love

Well, I always have prefered dogs, they are by far a better "companion". But ofcourse its less work to have cats so it suits many better. I train my dogs to be self suifficent. They more or less take care of themselves and knows what to do/what not to do. And unless I want them near me, they leave me alone :) I love cats to though.. but there are limits to fury things in a 40m2 apartment!

Sounds to me (out of your list of traits) that the typical cat person needs a dog person :). I would say im a mix
