I've definitely encountered one before. This person was among my group of friends, and it caused a bad habit to develop among that group, whereas whoever was not present would be the subject of criticism. I don't hang out with them anymore though.

    You probably did the right thing. What a shame that a single toxic person can mess up a complete group of friends.
