I wanted to write an uplifting post, a positive post about the outreach last weekend and the smiles I saw, I wanted to talk about the videos and images I am currently editing out.
I have so many projects both in Steemit and other stuff and I need the energy for it but somehow I am experiencing a low point.
Anthony Bourdain's death was one trigger, our failure to go to Banawen Primary school was another downer especially with all the rain that we have been having. It has been one week now of all rain.
The weather bureau reported that there are two more storms incoming and although it will not make landfall it will bring in monsoon rains ensuring that the weather remains cold and miserable.
As if I didn't have enough demons in my head, I also have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) often Starts around November and December. Then a short interlude of a more positive disposition during March -May and once the rainy season starts I enter a slump of low energy again especially when there are storms.
What is SAD?
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons — SAD begins and ends at about the same times every year.
One thing that needs to be established is it's frequency and timing so that it can be isolated from depression, bipolar syndromes and the like. The best way is consulting a specialist about your symptoms and issues.
I know its onset with me as I feel the following:
- Low energy
- trouble in concentrating on tasks and projects
- the tendency to shy away from people and retreat to a cocoon-like refuge
- introvert tendencies goes on overdrive
- Chocolates not doing their magic
Treatment
Each individual is different as what would work with them, We are the sum of our experiences, emotions, culture, and upbringing so we would all respond to something differently.
Here are some of the ways that I try to combat SAD.
- Anti-depressant medication
- Light Therapy
- Traveling
- Writing
- Eating
- Playing Video games
- Watching anime
I used to drink anti-depressant medication as prescribed by my doctor but found the dependence to drugs wreaks havoc on my psyche and my liver so I only do that under very extreme circumstances.
I don't recommend Stress eating but having a nibble of something sweet and so a chocolate bar does a lot of mitigating my mood.
A full-spectrum bright light shines indirectly into your eyes. You sit about 2 feet away from a bright light -- about 20 times brighter than normal room lighting. The therapy starts with one 10- to 15-minute session per day. Then the times increase to 30 to 45 minutes a day, depending on your response.
I know the scientific explanation of Light Therapy and it does make sense especially if you don't have access to travel to warmer places or vacation on a perennially great weather place.
Writing has always been a sanctum of safety for me and a way for me to expel the blue feelings that I have at the moment.
Before using a pen and paper, the words and emotion of helplessness and sadness would just flow out. As the technology improves we now use computers and mobile devices in order to write our thoughts.
It relaxes as well as exorcists the pain and demons I have in my head.
Anime and Videogames, I did not separate anymore because that is what is needed by an individual just to do something that they love and enjoy. May it be music, art or whatever that makes them happy.
To live their lives without pain and sadness is naive but we have ways of mitigating those feelings so that we live a full life.
So it is okay to realize that you are not okay. That rains make you cry. You are human and thus exhibits your flaws and all and you will be celebrated and welcomed.
Know that you are not alone. So next time that you look at the stars, stay strong.

I love knowing that you are doing what you need to do for yourself.
I am sorry for everything that is happening, sometimes it seems when things go bad, so does everything else. Yet that is only an illusion and even though it can be so hard to do, we must look for the more positive things to lift ourselves up, just like you are doing. Acknowledging it, like you have said, opens the doors and it is ok. Cry with the rain. I know I do. xx

Yeah, I've read about SAD once, when I took an online mental health test. I know those tests are not accurate but yeah, I get frequently low energy and lonely on consequently rainy days but yours is the real diagnosed thing. Hope you get back up soon and be the energetic focused person you are during the summer.

yeah the online version might not be the best indicator if you have it because it needs to be checked if its periodic.

Each person has their rela of how to dispel their pain or internal discomfort, one of the worst cases are those people who are locked in their pain, do not want to talk to anyone, or to see them, totally isolated, is where it gets worse depression and suicide can occur, someone very close to me happened, and therefore when something ail me or try to appear depression I escape and seek new alternatives, work, relationships and other circumstances.

That is the most difficult time when people start to keep things inside and refuse to go out and explore their feelings.
It is when they start deluding themselves that they are okay when he truly is not because admiting it would be to admit the weakness and that they don't know what to do.

Man, you got it coming from all directions buddy! I'm not making light of SAD (not pun intented), because I too suffered terribly from it living in Vancouver. The year we decided enough was enough, we'd had 8 months of rain. I moled up at home, gained weight, barely felt the energy to shower...total depression. Being in Mexico makes the world of difference, but at the moment we're on day 4 of rain here and I can feel it seeping in my bones again. I just had "happy" music playing, which helps a bit, I went for a long walk this morning, which helps a bit, but truthfully, it keeps it at bay for a bit...that's it.
We can rest assured however, that the sun will shine again. Do what you have to do, don't worry about ever responding to my comments, seriously! and know that you will feel better eventually. Don't be too hard on yourself. As usual, sending lots of love your way!

oh man 8 months of rain sounds terrible, we have about 4-6 months but there are a few good sunny days.
this week long of rain indeed made it difficult for me to get up and even comment, mostly spent my time sleeping.
We had a touch of no rain early this morning so I was able to walk the doggo for the first time this week.

I don't know if my wife and I are full blown into SAD, she might be more than I, but I've been noticing a change in my own personal mood once the rains come, which can be as early as mid-September here and last through at least May. This year has actually be more on the sunny side, which has helped. But one of these days, I will probably need to move my wife to sunnier climes. The problem with that is, you tend to give up the greenery if you have too many sunny days. We like the green too. Dead grass brown is just, well, not as appealing. :)
Not sure why it can't just rain during the night when most us are sleeping and then stop sometime before sunrise. I mean, that would be only the proper thing to do, to keep us all in better moods. Maybe occasionally show up during the day, a couple of times a month, just to break up the monotony.
Someone should get on that. I'm pretty sure we can control weather by now. :)

Yes I like Spring, although Autumns are the weather I really like because it is not too hot nor too cold which I had experienced when I was living abroad, now back in the Philippines though I only have a Wet and Dry season hhahha.

If there are constants besides things change in this life, it's it can always be better, and it can always be worse. We spend a lot of our time somewhere in the middle, but assigning good or bad to it when it's almost always somewhere in between.
I think that's just human nature. It's great to have the sunlight but not so much the temperatures that go with it, and it's nice to have the greenery, too, but that means significant rainfall. We've actually had less rainfall this year than most, which means we'll probably make it up on the tail end of the year. All that energy has been out there somewhere, waiting to convert into rain. Unless you all took it. :)
Fall is really the best time. It's usually relatively warm for about a month, and then we get into lower temperatures and rain. Come November, though, Fall is pretty much a memory and we might as well be into Winter. :)

Likewise me too. Every changes of season, as well as my mood swing. But I never used to drink antidepressant. I only talk to God through prayers and drink activated charcoal to have a peace of mind. After an hour I drink Rain Soul

Rain Soul now that is something that i have never encountered before. Although I have heard of activated charcoal in a lot of products though.
We were just summer and all those sunny days made me feel happy being outside and being cooped up inside the house was something different.
The change in the season put me in a downer and hopefully I will be okay once I aclimatize.
