I recently read this piece titled "What Moana Taught me About Trauma". The woman shared how watching this movie was helpful for her in healing from childhood sexual abuse. She is a brave and courageous woman to talk about this and it got me thinking about how much unacknowledged trauma there is in our world and how profoundly it impacts us.
I am honoring this woman's courageous share about surviving sexual trauma. Trauma is more common than most people realize and this realization she had applies to all types of trauma. Things that our "conscious" masculine brain (cerebrum) often thinks of as normal is actually experienced as extreme trauma to our "unconscious" feminine brain (cerebellum) which is actually a much more powerful area of our brain and driving factor in our life. Until we make the unconscious conscious... or until we marry the feminine and masculine aspects within ourselves this trauma will recreate itself in our life.
Experiences such as surgery, circumcision, vaccines, birth interventions, sexual abuse and other types of abuse are rampant in our society and by definition are traumatic (Note:This post isn't to discuss or debate the necessity, safety of efficacy of any of these listed medical interventions but rather to acknowledge that by definition they are traumatic and have profound impacts on the psyche that need to be addressed in order for resolution to occur.) "Waking the Tiger" by Peter Levine is a wonderful read on the subject of releasing trauma imprints from our bodies memory.
"I have crossed the horizon to find you.
I know your name.
They have stolen the heart from inside you.
But this does not define you.
This is not who you are.
You know who you are."
"You are not defined by your darkest hour. You are greater than what has been stolen from you. It is never too late to heal. It is never too late to make a fresh start. It is never too late to have your heart restored."
If you have experienced any of these traumatic interventions or abusive situations then please know that you can heal. It will be a journey but you have already overcome so much in your life, you can move through this and heal and come out on the other side. You can step into a life of great vibrant love and joy. So often people with unconscious trauma think it's them, they think they are crazy and they can't really vocalize their experience to anyone. Somatic experiencing practitioners are very skilled at helping with trauma related issues but there are many other therapists who have a trauma lens from which they work.

Thanks David, this is a deep passion of mine. I want to see a world where people are truly open to the gift of life. I have been on my own healing journey and I can say with great certainty that facing the shadows we all carry has been worth it. Even ancestral trauma is stored in our genetic memory and we can transmute these patterns and step into something greater. Much love to you. Stay connected for more about healing, wellness, love, sacred sexuality and more.
