How successfully dealing with constant rejection can make you rich

Hello World! This is my first post on steemit and I decided it should be about something I’ve been dealing with lately and my observation and thoughts on the subject of rejection. Hopefully, my story will resonate with someone else going through a similar period and you will get something from my insights.

So, before I begin I should some background about myself. I’m an epidemiologist with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master of medical science. I’m currently doing research in psychiatric epidemiology with a focus on psychotic disorders, suicide, and migration. The road to here was not easy for me and mostly due to my own actions and beliefs, however, I’ll save that for another story and another day.

Today’s story is about something I had to deal with that we all experience namely that ugly monster of rejection and all the uncomfortable and painful feelings it causes in us when were faced with its ugly face. In short: I probably applied to 100 positions and got maybe 30 interviews and was rejected time and time again from 29 out of 30 of them. And it sucked balls. So, what did I learn? I learned one thing which if you manage to integrate as a coping mechanism will make you able to overcome even the most hurtful and monumentous let-downs. It’s something that is very counter-intuitive but if you do this one thing I guarantee you that your life will change.

Take full personal responsibility for being rejected. It is 100% your fault. Now you might but thinking “sammi that makes no sense maybe the interviewer is a dick and treated me unfairly” for whatever reason. Sure, that may be but if you don’t claim responsibility than you are essentially saying that another person is in control of your life. And this is an extremely anxiety provoking paradigm to find oneself in. It will quickly lead to feelings of despair and hopelessness. So, it is imperative that no matter what when you are faced with rejection you tell yourself: it was wholly my fault. Then you asses the interaction and dissect it and identify the behaviors which led to you being rejected and tweak them for next time.
I cannot stress this enough though do not feel sorry for yourself, because it feels to good we humans have evolved to choose the path of less resistance and there is no resistance in assuming the role of the perpetual victim. We are all at times tempted to assume this role for then we don’t have to face our egos, we don’t have to truly look at ourselves as the imperfect beings we are. Instead we can simply chalk it up to the unfairness of life. Cause I’ll be completely with you all. It sucks taking responsibility for the negative things that happen in your life. It doesn’t feel natural or good at all. But if you preserve through the initial blow to your ego you will soon see something remarkable happen. You will still have FUD but you will notice that you are stronger and less affected by those emotions. You will feel in control and control my friends is the best anti-anxiety medication there is. Beats Xanax by long-shot (although doesn’t feel as good ;)

I sincerely hope that some of you will try this exercise and as an incentive I know a lot of people here are into trading cryptocurrencies as am I. And one of the biggest hurdles to being a successful trader is your emotions. Taking responsibility for everything that happens to you the good and the bad will allow you to develop perspective and a certain degree of emotional detachment which in turn will allow you to consistently make more rational and logical decisions. <- This can and will make you rich both in character and materialistically. I promise! You will be surprised by how strong you can become.
