Letting Go of Our Burdens and Things No Longer Needed

in psychology •  6 years ago

There's a popular piece of advice that recommends that we "unclutter" our lives and get rid of thing we no longer need.

When we have too many things in our home — or carry too much stuff around — we feel weighted down; it can become hard to move or do anything new, because there is SO much clutter and junk in our way.

Just look in your walk-in closet, garage and attic!

How much stuff are you keeping there, in expectation that "someday" you will do something with it, or "someday" you'll need it? How much stuff are you keeping around because you can't bear to part with it, because "it might be useful," even though you have not needed it in five, ten, twenty years?

And so, we organize ourselves; do spring cleaning.

But what about the mind; the spirit?

People often overlook the fact that our minds and souls can also become cluttered, and we have so many thoughts, ideas and plans stored in our brain that there is no room or bandwidth to take on exciting new opportunities when they present themselves.

This often manifests as "excuses" for not being able to start things because "it won't work till I've done x,y,z first!"

Is that really true?

When you have these thoughts, I invite you to examine the real truth of your excuses. Are you holding onto things you actually will never need? If so, why? What will it take to get rid of them, so you can move forward?

Have a beautiful day!

Bright Blessings to all!

I have to agree, that are minds and souls can absolutely get cluttered, and that they periodically need to be uncluttered so we can move forward in the best possible way. Losing out on opportunities because we're too concerned with what else needs to be done would not only be a shame, but potentially shut us off from some form of much needed growth.

The clutter we see around us each day may just be an extension of the clutter within us, too. The more free we are of clutter inside tends to make us want to be clutter free in our environment, too.

Very interesting topic.

It is rather remarkable how people really can get stuck in a place of "thinking too much."

It's really easy to do. I've been known to over analyze. Then I got married and I don't have to think nearly as much because she does it for me. :)

I'm kidding, but only to a degree. She does spend a lot of her waking and sleeping time thinking, which is helpful when there's reason to or solutions forthcoming. Unfortunately, it amounts more to worrying about things that can't be changed or dealt with just yet.

So, I know exactly where that place of thinking too much is.
