Se você não viveu isolado numa ilha deserta nos últimos 10 anos é quase certeza que você já deve ter ouvido falar de aquecimento global. E essa seria uma das consequências do aumento de gás carbônico na atmosfera, o que provoca um efeito estufa e retém mais o calor dos raios do sol na atmosfera.
Mas o que talvez pouca gente tenha ouvido falar é no efeito que o excesso de CO2 na atmosfera provoca nos alimentos. Segundo um estudo publicado recentemente pela revista Nature Climate Change, pesquisadores da Escola de Saúde Pública T. H. Chan identificaram diminuição principalmente nas quantidades de proteínas, ferro e zinco dos alimentos expostos a uma atmosfera com excesso de gás carbônico.
E isso pode ter implicações futuras na deficiência nutricional das pessoas, principalmente os mais pobres. Segundo o estudo, caso as emissões de carbono não sejam reduzidas nas próximas décadas, até 2020 quase 200 milhões de pessoas podem vir a apresentar deficiência de zinco, e mais de 100 milhões de proteína.
A deficiência de proteína afeta principalmente as crianças, adolescentes e gestantes, pois atrasa e prejudica o crescimento e desenvolvimento de órgãos e tecidos.
A deficiência de ferro provoca anemia, trazendo excesso de cansaço e fadiga.
Já a falta do zinco causa, dentre outros, problemas de pele como acnes e dermatites, e problemas no crescimento dos cabelos e unhas.
Então está aí mais um bom motivo para se preocupar com as emissões de CO2 na atmosfera. Isto pode vir a afetar diretamente a nossa saúde enquanto seres humanos habitantes desse planeta. Fica a dica.
