Puerto Rico Relief Fund

I met Tito Matos in 2004 during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Between 2004-2014, I worked with Tito many times b/t Richmond to Bangor Maine. I got to know him and his family. Tito could have had a lucrative music career had he stayed in United States, but he chose to go back home to to San Juan to teach plena and bomba, traditional Puerto Rican music to his community. Without Tito's efforts this style music could lost forever. If you want to help Puerto Rico,
help Tito. He takes care of his community and your funds will be going to a good cause as soon as you click send.

The Story of La Junta

La Junta, a restaurant/bar and performance space in the middle of Calle Loíza, was destroyed by Hurricane María.Owned by master plenero Tito Matos and journalist Mariana Reyes, La Junta was at the center of the Calle Loíza, and Barrio Machuchal, communities' efforts towards socially-responsible development, and community building.

La Junta needs help to re-open. Without our help we will lose a much needed performance space for independent artists, live plena, bomba, and rumba; its employees will find themselves without a job; plus the community will lose a truly open and welcoming community space.

Tito and Mariana have given lots of fun times, support, and love to many. Let's help them in a time of need. Let's make this happen.
