Few times has an album been so culturally impactful that it gets not accolades from the music industry but it's essence and impact be captured and turned into a movie. And few albums did it like the classic album "Purple Rain".

Purple Rain is the sixth studio album by Prince, released on June 25, 1984 by Warner Bros. Records. The battle between Prince and his label is well documented and expressed masterfully in Jay-Z's song "Caught Their Eyes". Purple Rain showed Prince at his best. An artist. This was seen by his credits on the album for playing the instruments from the lead guitar to the piano. It also showed his skill for writing which was put on display as single after single from this album charted with classics like "Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry", and who could forget the title track "Purple Rain". The title track alone showed Prince as THE ARTIST. Multi-talented and unafraid to put his sole into each and every track. The album was a representation of his hometown Minneapolis who's known for it's dark dreary rain filled days and nights. This is what Prince beautifully captured on this album. It's no surprise that Prince and his band The Revolution won a 1984 Grammy Award for Purple Rain, for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. At time many thought this was the penical of his career. But for Prince, this was just a small thumbtack in the legacy that would be the Artist named Prince.
Purple Rain is the epitome of a legendary album that transcended onto the movie screen. The movie alone grossed $68,392,977 in the United States and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score Recently Netflix has been a major part of helping keep this movie alive, as now millions of viewers are introduced to one of the most classic movies of all time. Purple Rain captured a moment in time that was like no other. And the artist named Prince made sure that this movie was just the same. Like no other. Categorized as an American rock musical drama film, the 1984 movie was directed by Albert Magnoli, and written by Magnoli and William Blinn. What's more amazing is Prince's debut acting role as the lead character "The Kid". The emotions of the album were beautifully displayed on screen as iconic scenes such as his performance of "Darling Nikki" was a vindictive raunchy display meant to get the attention of his love interest "Apollonia". And get her attention he did. Purple Rain wan't just a movie that strung together separate music videos. This was a film that took it's audience through the highs and lows. The victories and the defeats. The sunshine and the "Purple Rain".
So if you have time go watch some Netflix and see why this movie was so iconic. Better yet go through on the album and get drenched in the emotions that can only be described as "Purple Rain".
