Putting Guide

Dunk a bottle of ice over your head before you start putting. Putting frequently damages my pride and makes me “cry” 😂, but you need quality putting for the clubhouse still. In my personal experience, rule based techniques and tips keep me focused for my long shots pride (important). Let's start with lesson number one.

In the past I guessed, I pulled back long and hit hard or I hit using the eye. In other words this will add up your drink bill. Pullbacks are the distance between your right or left foot, but the putter should release to the opposite foot. Eventually, this stopped me drawing my putter way back and helped my accuracy. Additionally, pop puts are useful in this case.

Lesson number 2. Speed equals distance, but direction is of equal importance. Pop puts are speed and direction. Storytime! Bad pop puts for me resulted in long pullbacks with jerky movement, so still in pain (or drink debt). Good pop puts are being close to the ball with the left or right eye on top, thumb over the grip, and bending my entire back. The thumb crossover keeps the pop put squared, and when hitting, is important. Additionally this provides confidence and accuracy.

Lesson number 3. Visualization of your line is key, read the green as water would flow to determine the best probability.

Lastly, use the right speed to not kill the ball. In a good opportunity, visualize scoring over the hole, but otherwise stay cautious. Get a feel for the quality of your green to gauge speed.

With these tips requires practice. Develop your own method with these tools, so you don't hesitate when putting. Remember the more repetition, the better return. See you at the clubhouse! (Hopefully with many drinks)
