QNAP - NAS

in qnap •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hey folks, so today's task was to setup a Qnap NAS which will soon be brought into Veeam as a backup repositry.

Quite funny....this NAS has a built in media centre which will never be used because it is for business purposes only(although I would not mind taking this little kitty home ;-) ).

I installed 4 x 4TB drives and set this up in RAID 5 which gives me about 12TB of usable space .

For those who are not tech savy, this basically means I can lose any one disk and still be operational but I would need to replace the disk as soon as possible and it would rebuild itself.

Many would argue that we should be using Storage tapes however we feel that it is outdated and we do follow the rule of having backups in 3 different places so we are pretty safe.

Just awaiting for the raid to build itself and will start backing up to the QNAP.

Thanks for reading and Take Care.

Does the QNAP Have the Ability to Mirror itself to an Identical unit? The reason I ask is that I bought a Netgear enterprise NAS as it was supposed to. However the only thing it syncs up is the snapshots. Needless to say I was not happy with Netgear or their support on mine.

Qnap does, take a chance on it
