Quant Network Overledger: Bridging Blockchains; Enabling New Possibilities

in quant •  7 years ago  (edited)

Quant Overledger are unlike most crypto projects, in that they are NOT a blockchain. Rather, they are a layer that sit on top of blockchains to provide a solution to a slowly emerging problem in the rapidly evolving crypto space: the problem of inter-platform operability. It is not something many in the space have yet been compelled to think about but consider this: have you ever wondered why a smart contract executed on Ethereum can’t be recognised by the Hyperledger blockchain? Why can’t protocols be more inter-operable, meaning less uncertainty by potential business adopters regarding longevity? That’s where Quant shines.

Overview & Vision

Quant’s vision is both evolutionary and revolutionary. Referred to by themselves as the ‘blockchain operating system for the future’, the vision of Quant Network, through their Overledger solution, is to overcome the limitations of blockchains in their current form of individual, isolated networks. By introducing their operating system into the blockchain ecosystem, Overledger aim to allow cross-platform interactions, which would undoubtedly signal the next evolutionary step in the blockchain space.
Quant wish to achieve this in the following ways:

  1. Allow blockchain to blockchain communication.
  2. Connect to the world’s existing networks and internet to blockchain.
  3. Allow developers the opportunity to build applications across multiple ledgers.

Overledger claim to be the solution to all of these problems, enabling cross-communication and utilisation opportunities of blockchains never before seen in the space.

Quant’s Solution

Quant’s solution will allow the first MApps (multi-chain apps) to be born. It will be possible for the first time for developers to build applications across multiple ledgers. This will enable a new level of possibility to blockchain application development, ending ‘single ledger dependency’ and giving developers the power to harness the utility of different blockchains.

Being able to migrate between blockchains and utilise different technologies improves a user’s resilience by limiting their risk and exposure; for the very first time businesses/ developers who wish to take the (often confusing and overwhelming) plunge into the blockchain space with their own dApp will have no fears or uncertainty regarding the future viability of their chosen platform. This alone could be a powerful factor to encourage adoption and overcome a mental barrier for many potential business adopters.

The Quant understand the revolutionary potential of blockchain technology for many businesses, and have engineered the Overledger technology to be seamless, and to comply with necessary regulatory requirements. Furthermore, there will be minimal changes to an enterprise’s existing system required to adopt the new technology.

Overledger, then, is an adoption-friendly, platform-agnostic operating system which facilitates the development of next-gen blockchain MApps (multi-chain apps). This could be a huge leap forward for the crypto space and could represent yet another important pivotal point in the history of blockchain. But are the team qualified to carry out such a mammoth task?

Team

Anybody can write an impressive whitepaper and create a persuasive website; the idea is the easy part, it’s implementing the idea which is difficult. In the Wild West of crypto, ensuring that the team has the experience and capability required is crucial.

The team at Quant Network harness an impressive array of skills and expertise, and combined have decades of relevant experience in many areas crucial to their mission. Each team member’s credentials are impressive in their own right which is reassuring to see. For example, CEO Gilbert Veridan has been working in Cybersecurity for 20 years at CIO/CTO/CISO level in Financial Services, Governments, Consulting, and Industry (UK Government, HM Treasury, Downing Street, Department of Health, Ministry of Justice, BP, HSBC). These are some incredibly impressive credentials alone.

Verdict & Summary

I want to stress the importance of Quant’s goal; It will be a massive accomplishment whenever effective cross-blockchain communication is achieved, and will effectively enable endless possibilities for data and applications.

If we examine the crypto space in terms of emerging trends, we will find that waves of projects tend to react to fill a specific required void, depending on the demands of the evolutionary stage of the space. First, alternative currencies which were enhanced in certain ways believed lacking in Bitcoin, next development platforms such as Ethereum and subsequent competitors/ similar projects each with their own individual solution, then crypto exchanges (and now increasingly decentralised exchanges) as more of a public demand surfaced.

One of the biggest emerging issues in the space is the inability to interact cross-platform, which is going to be at once a crucial hurdle for progression, and a huge advancement in itself when cross-platform interactivity is efficient and reliable. It would stand to reason that cross-protocol layer solutions could soon become a prominently emerging trend in the space, and Quant Overledger are certainly beginning their journey with solid fundamentals.

Quant have an excellent team and a clear, calculated, revolutionary vision of interoperability. Quant’s goal is both evolutionary and revolutionary for the blockchain space.

I will certainly be keeping Quant on my radar in the coming months!

Wow I think the power of multi platform dapps can be huge, not something I'd thought about before! But what about any competitors?
