This is an Electric Blue Crayfish my daughter has in her freshwater aquarium. It is the largest and most intriguing member of the tank.
The Electric Blue Crayfish also go by the names Blue Crayfish, Florida Crayfish, and Everglade Crayfish. Its vibrant coloring looks unreal, but it is totally natural.

An interesting fact I learned is it due to the lack of a specific gene that the brilliant blue coloring occurs in the crayfish.

The Electric Blue Crayfish is one of the most active and fascinating bottom dwellers to watch. As it moved around, it reminded me of a Godzilla-like creature..

I feared the other finned occupants of the aquarium would become its breakfast, lunch and dinner. Surprisingly, that wasn't the case. Fish stores sell special "invertebrate pellets" -- fish food pellets shaped like rabbit poop that sink to the gravel at the bottom of the tank, specifically made for bottom feeders including crayfish. Due to the Electric Blue Crayfish's maximum growth potential size ranging between 4-6 inches, they need an aquariums of at least 20 gallons and can live to be 5-6 years old with the proper diet and care.

FACT: The Electric Blue Crayfish are the only species of crayfish native to Florida.

They use their strong claws and pinchers to hold and tear apart their food in the same manner crabs and lobsters do.

Ooohhh i can feel the pinching pain...ooouchhh....thanks for briefing it so smoothly. Never ever saw them though had crabs only once in my life but never saw them in real...aquatic animal are beautiful but dangerous too

Great post @ninahaskin, what a beautiful fish tank your daughter has, very cool.
When my kids were young they wanted a puppy, no way I said, I have the four of you that's all I can handle, but we got them a really big fish tank. They loved it and I did too, no barking or messes to clean up. hehe

Thank you for the lovely comment and sharing a bit about personal background about yourself! Aquatic pets are so easy to take care of, and on those unfortunate occasions when one fish dies they can easily be flushed down the toilet and replaced the next day! @farm-mom 💕

You are blessed to have four kids and now seven delightful grandchildren -- one for each day of the week!💫

I grew up having almost every kind of pet allowed and my daughter definitely follows in my footsteps-- an avid animal lover! She had a "Little Mermaid" themed bedroom right down to the matching aquarium when she was a young girl. I bet secretly she named the electric blue crawfish in her tank Sebastian!🧜‍♀️🦞🧜‍
