QuarkChain achieves scalability using two-layer structures. The first layer donates elastic shards. It is a division of databases that divides very large databases into smaller, more efficient, and easy-to-manage components. It is called data shards. Data Shards are the main thrust of the QuarkChain project.

Additionally, the second layer is referred to as the root blockchain which is part of the component in the Quarkchain project. It determines the transaction (block) is rejected by the first layer. QuarkChain's second layer can be restarted as needed without changing the root layer.

Another unique feature of QuarkChain is the ability to provide quality assurance through market-based collaboration mining. Basically, there are 50% of network hash power reserved for root blockchain. It is to prevent multiple shopping attacks. In the future, cheap resource nodes can form teams to create super nodes.
