Trying to define Buck Angel in a headline isn’t easy. I really just want to say “EEE I met Buck Angel” but that wouldn’t hit too many keywords. The first paragraph on his website sums up a part of why I admire him so much:
Buck Angel’s message of empowerment through self-acceptance and the mission to encourage everyone to be comfortable in their own skin – whatever that means to them – has struck a passionate chord with people around the world.
That is exactly what I love to see, is my own mission with my work and passion in my life- to help people feel empowered to embrace themselves as natural, beautiful and without shame. Buck is amazing at this. He encourages folks to love who they are, and helps them get there. Through his online presence, speaking engagements, work within the adult industry (even creating the first Female to Male[FTM] trans-specific sex toy), and filmmaking- he inherently spreads the idea that “you are okay as you are”.
Buck is a man with a vagina and a mission. He works to empower people to accept themselves and better their own lives. He’s coined the phrase, “it’s not what’s between your legs that defines you!”. He was born with female genitalia and chooses to keep his bits as is, as they are a part of who he is. I dare you to look at pics of Buck in the nude and tell me he’s not a studly hunk of a man. Do it. I am keeping this post SFW or I would show you. Google, people.

At XBIZ this last week, Buck was one of the panelists on the “LGBTQ Branding” seminar. It was a lively discussion aimed to help inform attendees on marketing and building their own niche-specific brands in adult. I found it very helpful and insightful, and the expert panelist’s responses to attendee questions thoughtful and compassionate.
I wanted to attend the panel as I have been shooting more and more queer porn as my career has gone on- and I love it. As a queer (bi/pansexual) person myself, I feel pretty at home around other “out and proud” queer people- and I’m lucky that some of them want to share about their sexuality on camera with me. The lovely couple Iris and Leif have modeled for me on both Yanks and YanksVR and have some of the most intense chemistry I’ve come across.
Yanks
Leif is a FTM transman who is a confident, charismatic dude.
Yanks
He’s also sexy as hell.
YanksVR
I really enjoy the opportunity to educate viewers on all types of bodies, how they work and receive pleasure. I try to use my work to empower people to embrace themselves and better communicate with their lovers.
Years ago I got to shoot Skyler for Yanks, who is also a FTM transman. I enjoyed getting to see someone so comfortable with their body, explaining to my cameras how it worked and how they receive pleasure. It’s what I’ve done with all my models for Yanks, but I feel it’s especially signifcant with folks who aren’t usually seen on film.
I’ve also gotten to shoot many other queer folks, including those who identify as genderqueer (non-binary, genderfluid, agender...). Shooting queer porn has been something I’ve pushed for more and more as much as I could for Yanks. I’ve loved getting some of the most intense and informative content from these models. I also just simply love being around folks who are comfortable with themselves.
Anyway, back to meeting Buck-
So I asked some questions to the panelists about the luck they’d had with cross marketing niches within adult. I’d like to continue producing more queer content (somewhere), and I’d like to be smart about how to successfully go about it. I know, as in the case with Yanks, introducing people to content they don’t normally see (like FTM models on a solo and girl-girl site) is always a case of “let’s see how this works”. Buck answered my questions with thoughtful, intelligent and compassionate responses from his many years of entrepreneurial and marketing experience. Somehow, he also found a way to inspire and encourage me even through his answers to my marketing questions. He is an inspirational badass, folks.
After the panel, he took some time to answer additional questions of mine, give advice and chat about my hopes on finding more good companies to work with. He’s candid, generous with insight, and has an admirably grounded business mind. I walked away stoked and optimistic.
A few days later, at the XBIZ Awards, I am happy to report- Buck won another award! For the industry, his movie that won is pretty groundbreaking. Trans porn doesn’t usually have many categories, and FTM generally doesn’t get much love. This time his movie ‘Buck Angel Superstar’, which features FTM/MTF trans models getting it on, won Trans Release of the Year! I saw him afterward and he was just giddy. It was awesome to see!

Thanks @limabeing - @carlgnash sent me your way and I already joined #teamgirlpowa ! I am still learning my way around Discord (and Steemit) and haven't posted anything on that Discord yet (edit: just now realized I could use that as a tag here- thanks!). All insight with this new-to-me platform and how best to utilize is definitely welcome- thanks!

I've heard the phrase, “it’s not what’s between your legs that defines you” at least a million times, and had no idea who said it originally. That's wicked cool! I've now followed him on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube (even though my accounts are getting a bit dusty since I discovered Steemit - LOL), and I'm listening to one of his videos (Divorce, Betrayal and Trans man Dating from Buck Angel) as I'm typing this. Thanks so much for putting him on my radar!
I've also followed you on Twitter and FB, and I applaud your effort to create realistic erotica to balance out the unrealistic mainstream porn (wait, is "mainstream porn" an oxymoron? LOL).
I've been trying to work up the nerve to write a post from my perspective as a bisexual woman married to a straight man, and now after reading this, I'll definitely get it done in the near future. Thanks for the unintentional nudge! 😊

Oh, that is so cool @traciyork! I am happy to point you his way! I find him truly inspiring.
I hope you enjoy writing that post. I know how cathartic it can be to sort out feelings on bisexuality in our society when you're a woman who's with a straight man (been there!). Let me know when it goes up :)
Also, thank you for your support! I enjoy showing realism in my work, as well as knowing there's a place for the fakey stuff too. I agree, it's just a balance. There's room for both fantasy and reality, and I've been lucky enough to have a platform to show the latter. I also used to act in and direct fun fetish content that definitely wouldn't be considered realistic. I enjoyed that in a different way- getting to come up with lines for ridiculous situations is WAY FUN!

Thanks! I definitely will shout out - it will probably be some time in the next week (aka, before my mother finds out about Steemit - LOL!).
Oh, and you're very welcome! Hubby and I discovered a female porn director years ago (we didn't have kids yet, and our eldest is almost 23) who had a similar attitude - instead of trying to "eradicate" the fake stuff, offer people an alternative. And who said realism couldn't be silly - LOL!

I feel you on your mother situation. Just remember, most of us came to be from our parents actively doing things that prove they weren't total prudes ;)
That's great you found a female director years back! I love hearing that! Also, exactly on the alternative. One thing that stands out to me is the misleading intro to sexual pleasure that we can receive in america, where sex-ed is limited. We don't offer enough education on actual pleasure. I've focused on asking the models I've shot to show me what they actually like, instead of being super scripted all the time.
Sex can definitely be silly, too :) If it's fun then why not?

I don't know about that - I'm pretty sure my mother thinks I still believe the stork brought me and my siblings... LOL!
I asked hubby, and he couldn't remember her name either. I did some Googling (since the video store we used to rent from no longer exists, so I couldn't call and ask them 😊), and I think it might have been Candida Royalle. I just remember the mood lighting and soft focus lens was a refreshing change from the up-close-well-lit norm of the day.
And if I had an SBD for every time silliness showed up whilst I was having sex, I'd be a Steemit Whale.

Haha on your mom :)
I'm glad you found something you liked! Sometimes it's a bit of a trek to find content we really dig.
And me too, on silliness ;)

I was so excited to see my friends on this post I was about to say "Oh hey they're not Leif and Iris they're..." duh...not using their real names. Anyway, it's fun to recognize folks in unexpected places...like Steemit.

So eye-opening! Even being the the gay community I didn't really know much about the transgender porn scene, but then again even among the LBGTQAI community, there's a lot of separation and divide among us all. Thanks for sharing and I have some homework to do now!
