Quick Tip: Voting Power And How To Check It

in quicktip •  7 years ago  (edited)

I have noticed a lot of confusion by the new people about how their votes count. I did a post last week discussing why it is important (click here). So today I'm going to give a "quick tip" to show you 2 different sites to view your voting power meters.

Steemd.com

a tutorial 2.JPG

This is the site that I personally use the most, I constantly refresh it to get my latest activity (pic below). It shows my power meter and my voting strength (pic above) To access the site go to: https://steemd.com/@yourusername and check it out.

Steemworld.org

This is a site I just discovered, and I think it gives some better information in regards to voting power meter understanding. Highlighted in the pic above is the actual value of your vote based on where your power meter is at any point in time. In my case, I'm almost full so I get almost a full penny on my next vote (see pic above).

Note: the interesting thing this also tells you is your vote value based on where your power meter runs down to. So don't let your power meter get below 80 or you'll have no punch!

a tutorial 7.JPG

Bonus information too! In the pic above you will see 2 very cool other features this site has. First is in the middle you will see the time it will take your voting power to be fully recharged (in my case it is 2hr and 48min). This is very good because you can know how long it will take and plan your activities accordingly.

And second is the simulator feature which you can use to imagine the possibilities. You can click on the "simulate" button and change the amount of STEEM POWER (SP) in your account to see what your voting values would be. (Note: I already did it in the example and changed my SP to "130 simulated" and I see that my voting values will be .03 at 100% at the 130 SP mark). You can play around with it and find out exactly how much voting values you will get based on what level of SP you have (or aspire to have in the future). Very very cool feature. To access the site go to: https://www.steemworld.org/@yourusername and check it out.

This is a Quick Tip and I hope it is helpful.

Oh my! I'm so glad I found your blog. This is definitely a great tool. I just saw my Voting Power meter and I'm down to 30%. I have to stop upvoting for 3 days to reach 100%. I will be motoring this from now on. Thank you so much for sharing this to a newbie like me.

lol... yes @wincee you want to keep it between 80 and 100% (unless you plan on going on vacation) ;)

I am very happy you stopped by to tell me your thought too. Its always a good to hear that people read and appreciate your posts... I wanted to give you another tip too, keep doing this. The more you are real and genuine and take the time to make sincere comments into other authors post, the more connections you can make and believe it or not you can also make more money that way too. (I'm going to upvote you for you comment, I'm still a little one too but many are not.) So by commenting you can make new friends, see great things, and actually earn some decent money just by being honest and thoughtful.

Take care and stay in touch and ask me anything anytime... I'm happy to help you wincee :)

Thank you for doing so. I appreciate yiur advice & upvote. I actually also shared your blog to my friends who are bew to steemit too coz we just keep on upvoting post without even knowing. So this reallt helps honestly. 😊

Very good that you are helping them too... That will make us all have a better experience if we work together ... Keep at it and stay in touch wincee :) and I'll also check out your blog too!

Oh wow. Another winner @davemccoy . I'm off to check it out now. I had no idea how my voting power worked. Nice though it is to see the cent value rise on each post, I'm more interested about the difference it makes when I upvote someone. Thanks buddy.

That is what the meter in on the second site will tell you... In the example above, now that I'm at full strength, my votes count for .01 (as long as I don't let it run too low from here)... Check it out and play with it, they are both very good sites for different reasons. If you have any questions about it, just come back! I always like chatting with you @looksfarwoman :)

It's brilliant, I've just been playing with them. Bummed out though because I have no power for 2 days. This could become an obsession....I'm rather prone to micro focussing. 😆

haha I think i'm prone to obsessive compulsive so I get it ;)

Wow, great tools. Although i think I already spend way too much time on the site! I love the simulation tool.

yes, me too... I entered it up and down to see how it works.. I looks like every 43ish is another .01 the whole way up. And haha on spending too much time on it, it is certainly addicting ... I get it ;)

Very good work you doing good work on steemit .your voting power is increase its really good but mine votingpower is only 28 % hahahahaha its ok i m following ur guidelines i will be get success

Yes, stop upvoting until you get over 90... And when you feel like you want to upvote it, just write them a very nice message in the comment section... Trust me, its actually a good thing to learn how to do this and it will be actually more profitable for you very quickly... Just use your personality and make sincere comments and you will do great @annie32 :) ... and thanks for the compliment and I know you will be a success!

Thanks for sharing. Steemworld I had never heard of. Upvoted and followed

You're welcome and thank you for taking the time to tell me @imperialaussie! .I didn't either until I stumbled on it today. I like steemd for my activity, but the steemworld has some features that are very helpful towards understanding this platform. I am glad we are connected and hope to stay in touch with you!

Very good and helpful post. Thank you for taking your time to right it.

Thank you for letting me know you like it, that always makes the effort worthwhile... And glad we recently connected @marinaart! :)

It is too many nuances that needs to be calculated with all this SP to be successful here. Feels like chess game to me

no I"m sorry if I confused you... I'm trying to give you the "best" solution... you can just sell your sbd for steem in the currency market... once you get steem, just power up to steem power... steem and steem power are the same, but the only difference is steem is liquid but doesn't help your voting power, whereas steem power is less liquid but gives you more upvoting value.

frankly there is no reason to worry about this if its not of interest to you, just keep posting and building your following and collect what comes your way. It is real and the money is real, so you can just cash out the regular way.

I didn't want to spook you, I am trying to find out how to optimize my earnings so that I can teach others, but that isn't something that you need to think about. If my experiences help others, that is good, but by no means is the value to steemit in the little difference between the which way to convert or use your different currencies.

I am not planing to cash out any time soon :) I tested steem dollars to steem power conversion it is worked. You are helpful , it is just my bumpy english on the way to understanding everything 100% :) After how many votes Steem Power will go below 80% ?

You should check by calculating yourself and testing it... but I think it is roughly a 2% drop with each vote... so between 10 and 15 is my best guess... And I'm glad I didn't scare you... I wasn't trying to... In fact I'm trying right now to figure out how best to explain it, because as you know its kinda confusing.

I will write an article about this soon, and I appreciate your reaction and feedback. I don't want to overload people with too much and I will weigh that in my presentation.

The basic premise behind steemit is that the content creators get paid for making the social network successful. That is something that is far more powerful than the little differences between one exchange or program than another.

And fyi, I didn't even know anything about steemit 2 weeks ago, I have no connections or interests other than figuring it out myself. I like people and feel that if I can help, then I get satisfaction and a sense of worth in doing so. But I also believe you should be comfortable and if that means just keeping what you get as you get it, then being comfortable is a good thing. You don't need to play any games, and again I"m sorry if I gave you that impression (because it isn't so).

I am still can't get how to trade Steem dollars for Steem Power on Blocktrades cite

let me look at your account, hold on

You just go to the currency exchange here... its much easier... Its in the menu tab on the top right of the site

Click on currency exchange and you want to "buy steem"... pick your conversion rate.. They have moved the conversion rate a lot in the last week... I was getting it at .36 and .37 and now its in the .50s range. I'm not sure how the fluctuations are, but that is a very big move in a week.

I would suggest that you go to @bumper and use their service... I'm doing it now for my sbd's... I'm still in a test phase, but so far I've had 7 tests and all have outperformed their promises... If you would like to know more about how it works just let me know.. Like I said I'm in the trial phase so not ready to broadcast loudly but I have 21 tests in progress now.

I'm going to sleep right now, but if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer in my morning @marinaart :)

really helpful, thanks!

Thank you @bennettitalia, thank you for letting me know that it was helpful! Stay in touch and happy to connect to you :)

same @davemccoy all the best

This post has received a 11.76 % upvote from @kittybot thanks to: @davemccoy.

Thank you @davemccoy. Another gem! I'm not upvoting you this time but will definitely resteem it.

That's awesome! And glad you didn't upvote, get your power meter up! And thank you @ladylei, for the resteem and also very much for the comment and feedback :)

BTW. Didn't mean to upvote my own comment. I was on auto pilot. Lol

haha... sure sure ;) ... jk lol

😁😁😁

Thank you for showing us steemworld. I had just found out about steemd, and almost did'nt read this gem of a post!

well thank you very much for that @rball8970 and I'm glad you commented so that I could make sure I connected to you! They are both good for different purposes, and the exciting thing is still there's much more for me to learn. Again, thanks for the compliment and lets stay in touch :)

Absolutely! I'm trying to learn everything I possibly can about steemit, bitcoin, coinbase.... Everything really! And I want to improve my content and abilities to produce it. You are welcome, and thank you again!

Thanks for the info. I feel like I need a tutorial to learn all about how Steem works!

haha yes... but that's half the fun (figuring it out) ;) ... If you have any questions, honestly just ask me because I'm always happy to share what I've learned. I'm learning too and each day its gets better and better! And you're certainly welcome btw, its my pleasure to help :)

thanks for this article !

BTW i also wanted to ask , how the bots work ? Do you have idea ? i use them sometimes , i receive comment from bot like : blahblahbot just upvoted your post and you have got 5.6% etc etc .. how that works ?

Your welcome @gleek (love the formatting in comment) ;)

And to answer your question, yes I'm working on that issue right now. I have been testing a service that runs both @bumper and @flagship for the last 3 days and I'm blown away at the results. I haven't written about it yet because I want to have actual data to show the way in which it works, and also I want to get a good understanding of what they can handle, what the "rules" are to make the process smooth and enjoyable (and profitable) for everyone. I'm really excited though, and like I said I'm 3 days in and think I'll start getting actual final payout numbers within 4 or 5 days. If you like to jump the gun and send in some to test it out yourself, just send anywhere from 0.1 to 0.5 SBD to @bumper and copy the URL of the post you want them to up vote in the note section. (note ONLY SEND THE URL in the note box)... If you do this, you will get a message back within minutes telling you that they received your request and you will be placed in the backlog. They've been sending quite a few out though, so like I said I'm very happy with it.

So you can either try it now (and ask me for help if you have any problems) or you can wait for me to explain it in roughly a week. Its up to you, but here is a link to their explanation (https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@flagship/hi-i-m-flagship-and-i-m-partnering-with-bumper-to-give-you-300-return-on-each-upvote)

ps they have out done their promises on my stuff done so far (over 15 of them already executed)

Hope this helps... let me know if you have any more questions... (note I will get into other services as time goes, but this one looks the best to me (from my limited time here))

And one other point, I will get to the other ones too and yes I've see the messages lol... If you have any specific one you want me to look at (other than @bumper or @flagship) then let me know and I'll get on it. I like projects ;)

hey thanks for this with me been 3 days new at this, i found this very helpful cool :)

Awesome Clive, I'm glad you did find it... I also did a series of things I found out in my first 7 to 11 days (4 posts)... If you get a chance read them too, they might help speed your learning curve ;)

Here is the fourth of that series (and the links to the other 3 are in that article at the bottom)...

https://steemit.com/steemit/@davemccoy/steemit-things-i-ve-learned-in-my-first-11-days-4

I hope they also help you and I plan on continuing with many other topics in the future... We're connected now, so stay in touch and ask me anything Clive, I'm happy to help you! :)

What a cool tool! I’d already figured out how to check my voting power but it’s great to see how long it will take to recharge - plus the simulator is neat. Thanks for sharing! Oh and apologies for not voting as I’m waiting to recharge - will make a note to come back once I’m up to 100% again, which, thanks to this great website, I can now see will be tomorrow am. Cheers!

lol... its ok to not upvote, I completely understand :)

Honestly you stopping by and commenting was worth far more to me as we now have a connection!!!

and there is also another feature on that site at the bottom and that is it will tell you how much in rewards in the future you have coming to you. Its a pretty good little motivational tool too :)

Thanks for the reply @freewheel, lets stay in touch :)

Awesome! I need to be checking it frequently. What does the bandwidth mean?

its the meter on www.steemd.com@jentz44 on the upper left below your voting power... And it means how much of the network your account can access... Normally the meter is solidly green because we all have enough bandwidth, but lately in the morning here we have all had our bandwidth cut back so we can only look at things but we can't "do" things like upvote or post or comment. If you ever see it going real slow, then check the steemd site and see if your bandwidth is green or grey... grey means you are being restricted.

Did I explain it so that you understand? Let me know if I didn't or you need more explanation.

Interesting! I've noticed how slow it is to upvoye things and sometimes make comments. Anytime I check it it is around 80 or 90%. Don't think I've ever saw it under 80%.

Its been negative for 4 days straight for some people... You might have more SP than us, more SP will get you more bandwidth... How did your test go with @bumper, were you happy with it?

Nice it was helpfull... keep it up

Thank you @sarinakhan.. I'm glad you liked it... I hope you had a good new year too... Thanks for stopping by and for letting me know your thoughts too! :)

Thank you. Still trying to get my head around it all.

I am not sure what I have done, but mine is 0. Can you tell me how I did this? and how I can fix it. many thank's

Ooh. Me too. I'm at 47% at 0. It's going to take two and a half days to recharge. So it would be really useful to know, what depletes it and is there a way you can boost it to recharge quicker? God I'm so bloody blonde! 😆

good questions.. both of them

Every upvote will deplete it (so you have to stop upvoting until it gets over 90 and closer to 100)

and no, can't boost it at all... It is all based on a clock that everyone operates on (big and small)...

Bonus answer too: its actually a GOOD thing because it forces you to write in words rather than upvote your thoughts... That is actually more valuable to you and will gain you new friends and followers and yes even money if they like your comments... I have made so much more money on the comment than on any of my posts.

So give up the crutch of upvoting for 2 and a half days and focus on writing lots of comments... And then let me know how it worked out ;)

Oh dear God. That's like walking into a room with a big red button labelled 'DO NOT PRESS'! I must admit, I have been doing both, it seemed only polite to upvote a post/comment that I'm impressed with. Time to sellotape my fingers to my desk I guess. 😆 Thanks again sweetie, an absolute pleasure, as always. 😙

haha I get it... awesome analogy (you can write a little story for your blog about that one) ;)

Also I will give you 2 other tips to help someone you really like and they are powerful things...

  1. tag the post by typing in @originalworks (if it is original) That is a small sign of respect and earns actually more than your upvote
  2. send it to @resteemable by going into the URL and taking out the https:// and replacing it with re ... that will send it to resteemable and they will send out a free resteem to their much larger viewer base. (note: if you do it right you will get a screen that comes up that asks if you want to donate. But they don't expect us small fish to donate, in fact they are doing this to exactly help us. So when that screen comes up, you did it right, and then just hit the back button on your browser)

It will help with the big red button withdrawals ;)

Oh cool. @originalartworks. That's brilliant. It will definitely help with the withdrawals......beer helps too, but this is betterer. 😁

lol its @originalworks (no art)... but it still is the same concept... and yes, I love beer to kill the red button blues ;)

I've been doing the same. I upvote comments I like just so that they can see that someone liked it. It's just so impersonal leaving them hanging not knowing if their comment was even read. :(

I know what you mean. But I guess it encourages us to respond and write something instead of simply upvoting.

and lol on being so bloody blonde.. no comment :O

No word of a lie.... my ex used to say to me,
'I swear every time you dye your hair, you lose a few more brain cells'. 😂

hahaha that's a good one, never heard it before

I'll check it out, hold on

you are good, you didn't put your username into the URL

https://steemd.com/@crazycryptoworld

You're at 98% which means you got a few if you want to click out there! I try to spread mine out now over the whole day (if I'm going to be near my computer) that way it always stays closer to the magic 100 :)

And I understand this point... Don't worry at all, it takes time for everyone... I just found the 2nd site today and that taught me some new stuff that I revealed today. This is an awesome site that is very complex, but I try to do what I can to help people at least understand what I understand. Just ask me if you still have questions, I'm happy to help! :)

Thank you, you have helped alot. If I am ok at 98% why is my vote still showing 0 when I upvote.

Its not completely 0, its just below a penny so it shows up as 0. As you get more steem power this number will rise... Just keep your meter between 90 and 100 and it will start to accumulate. One way to get your steem power up much faster is to comment on a lot of posts like you are doing with me. If you comment every time you want to upvote it, you will see you get three things 1) a potential new friend/connection 2) a chance they like what you say and they upvote YOU and 3) you will get steem every time someone upvote your comments and post too... Those 3 are far more valuable right now at your stage. And all you have to do is take a little extra time and write a good message.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this in very simple turns for me. So glad I found you.

This post has received a 9.09% upvote from @lovejuice thanks to @davemccoy. They love you, so does Aggroed. Please be sure to vote for Witnesses at https://steemit.com/~witnesses.

Excellent, thanks once again. I forgot about steemd and that almost makes up for the lack of notifications on steemit. :) Steemworld looks great too.

Thanks and yes I use steemd all day (I keep it open in its own browser) and then finding steemworld was good to figure out a few little neat other too. Thanks for the feedback @rjc :)
