The Bible invites us not only to comply with the commandments, but also to live wisely, with that common sense that comes from putting ourselves in the place of others.
And this knowing how to live with wisdom implies many things and in particular, knowing how to judge others, that is why the master of wisdom Ben Sira taught us something about this subject with a wisdom quote from his book: "Call none happy before death, for how they end, they are known" Ben Sira 11:28.
And this wise teaching has a deeper explanation:
"For it is easy for the Lord on the day of death
to repay mortals according to their conduct.
A time of affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights;
at the end of life one's deeds are revealed" Ben Sira 11:26-27.
Wisdom teaches us that we should not judge based on appearances or first impressions, but should take time to judge others. Many times only in the death of a person is the truth about him revealed to us, we never know the turns of life.
Many powerful men have testified in the Bible to this truth, and this is one of the reasons why the qualities of the humility and the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability) are so necessary.
Everyone could affirm that there is no person more blessed or happy than a king, because he is the head of a state, but an example of this spiritual teaching was King Ahab, king of Israel, whose life and works are recounted in the First Book of Kings, this king did what is bad in the eyes of God, and died in a terrible way after being wounded in a battle against the Arameans, Ahab as he lived, he died. His death showed his lack of common sense and his foolishness, by not listening to the prophet Micah, who revealed to the king the will of God with his prophecies.
Wisdom gives us another perspective on things, because wisdom seeks the truth, and what underlies human appearances.
