Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful, it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful, it is inspiring because the challenge now exists to make things better

I like the author's views... I think fearful is one who has lesser connect with inner-self which is never changing. The inner-self is like the wheel axle on which change is facilitated. The Hopeful on the contrary has experienced his/her inner-self and hence appreciates the change in outer world... And I believe being Fearful or Hopeful is an outcome of how our conciousnes flows: whether it flows outwards or inward...one can not do much on the outcome but one can control the direction of one's conciousness... if direction focusses on inner self, the real you (the subject) sitting in your deep core, you can  experience your real self which is always calm like a still water... And this stillness enables you to view ripples very objectively which the outer-self causes...the moment 'subject' is able to observe the  'object', the Hopeful is born!

But in the end, one may find that one needs to transcend both fear and hope!!
