The Philippines' Rachel Peters failed to reach the Miss Universe Top 5, ending her quest for the country's fourth crown in one of the world's largest pageants.
Peters advanced to the top 16 via wildcard and showcased her toned figure in the swimsuit round. She wore a pale bluish-grey dress with a high slit for the evening gown competition.
The last time the Philippines reached only as far as the top 10 was in the pageant's 63rd edition.
Heavy favorites Thailand and South Africa advanced to the top 5, together with representatives from Venezuela, Colombia and Jamaica.
Peters, a 26-year-old half-British model and entrepreneur, said her struggle to set up her own coffee shop in one of the Philippines' surfing capitals should inspire women to pursue their dreams.
Peters extends the Philippines' placement streak in Miss Universe to 8 editions from 2010, which started with Venus Raj and culminated in Pia Wrtzbach's 2015 victory.
Wurtzbach was one of the judges for the telecast.
