Hello. I'm Dafni a twenty year old girl from Europe. I like to play theater, to watch movies, eat food, and I hate racism. Well, to be precise I hate stupid people. And for me, racism is stupid.
I don't want to offend anyone and if I do I apologize in advance, I just want to express my opinion.
Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity. Today, the use of the term "racism" does not easily fall under a single definition.
Why does racism exist? It's something our brain developed to protect us. When we see something different we get scared. The unknown scares us. So immediately we want to protect ourselves. Our brain makes us feel superior than other human beings without giving them a chance to prove us wrong. And that's the problem.
We shouldn't judge someone because of their looks, it's something they can't control. I can't choose the country I was born nor the color I was BORN with. So why would you judge me because of my looks? If you want so badly to judge, judge me because of my actions, my words. The things I choose to define me. Not the things I can't control. And if you want to judge, then be ready to be judged.
You, reading this right now are no better than anyone else. I am no better than anyone else. I have my skills though. The things I am good at, and you do also. No one is the same, no one is useless. We all have our good parts. We are by nature different, UNIQUE.
We categorize our selves by the country we were born in, the color we were born with, the gender we were born with. We do this to our selves. Love for my country and hate for another person's country, is NOT the same thing.
What we can control is how we can develop our character, how we handle the information the world around us gives us. When we come to an age, we choose patterns that we feel they define us. We listen to the music that we want, we dress the way we like, in other words, if we are lucky enough we live the life we want.
Why does racism exists? Some people are racist because of their beliefs. Some other because of the hatred they have developed because of an incident or even because of what their father taught them. We act based on what the other people that are similar to us do. We copy our parents moves without even noticing it. When we finally grow up to have our "own" beliefs, we end up have the beliefs of our family, friends, teachers because we didn't filter the information they gave us. We lived a life believing the things other people taught us.
We have our beautiful parts that make us special and we have our flaws that also make us special. Together we can be better. I'm good with math, you are good with art. She's a brilliant doctor, he's a great teacher. Don't let stereotypes guide you. Make an opinion of your own.
I know that as humans grow older, their ideals are hard to change. But try and be better, try and make a difference.
Listen, Think, Love.
Or don't. I can't tell you what to do :)
So, you're saying you really, really feel strongly about this, right? 😁😃
Yup, I totally agree with you --it's just stupid.
Oh, and welcome to steemit, Dafni.

"I know that as humans grow older, their ideals are hard to change. But try and be better, try and make a difference." "What we can control is how we can develop our character, how we handle the information the world around us gives us". Really like those remarks. I have shared a lot on what I think too. Keep sharing your perspective. The more you learn the better it gets. You are good at expressing yourself.
Also "We lived a life believing the things other people taught us".. great job. beliefs can either be based on fact... or what we have been conditioned to believe. Excellent work. I may use these quotes at some point in time and reference you. Really like how you are trying to provoke thought.
