My topic is still Happiness!

I am talking to you about happiness and how one can be happy. I am using the site of the happy guru to help me to explain how we can be happy.
The first two steps were:

Next up is a song of Joy Williams - Sunny day! A 2009 Contemporary Christian song.

So today we look at Step 3 Happiness is simply a mental state of well-being created by positive and good emotions.

Real happiness is not caused by outside factors. Sure outside factors can contribute to your happiness,

but if you can’t find a place where your happiness comes from within you will never be truly happy. Quote hope777

After taking the first step and accept that Happiness is a choice and the 2nd step that happiness is an attitude of mind, and working on changing your attitudes from negative to positive you come to the third step you have to learn. That is that Happiness is a state of mind. As you can create your state of mind, you can create your own happiness.
What is a state of mind?

The happy guru says:

A state of mind is a temporary psychological state, the emotional and intellectual content of our mind at a precise moment.

Plainly said, it is what is going on in your mind, the thoughts you think and the emotions you create upon that thoughts.

Remember and I am going to say this a lot. You can’t feel without a thought preceding the emotions first. Even if the thought was not conscious like for instance somebody says something to you and immediately you are angry and you reacts by saying something rude in return. You did not first go and think what he is saying makes me now so angry, but there had to be a thought even if it was so fast that your conscious mind was not aware of it. This state of mind then determined how we react to the outside world with different people in different situations.
Your state of mind can be created by outside factors but the most important thing is that your state of mind can be created by yourself.

Your state of mind can be good and enabling states like, joy, happiness, love, confidence, beliefs etc or bad and paralysing states like fear, anxiety, depression, sadness etc.
The result of your state of mind comes out in the way you behave. So you can see how your state of mind can influence your whole life positively or negatively.

The way we perceive the world is largely dependent on our inner state of mind. If we are in a bad and negative state…. we see all dark and bad but if we are in a good state, like we are in love, or we are happy about a work promotion, we see all good and we don’t really bother much about anything else. We don’t let anything ruin our state of mind.
Like I said your state of mind can happen without you consciously realising it. You can see or hear something and then react to it going into a state of e.g. anger. Past memories and experiences can also have a big affect on your state of mind. Like hearing a favourite song of a passed loved one can make you go into a sad state of mind.
A good state of mind can be resourceful like when you are playing or doing a task and you are doing it well and making no mistakes. But a bad state of mind will be an unresourceful state when you are struggling to do something and you feel frustrated.

The important thing is to learn to change our state, from a bad state to a good state, from an unresourceful state to a resourceful state so we can be in control of our life and lives happily. (How to replace your negative thoughts with positive thoughts)

If you learn to change your state or mood whenever you are in a bad and unresourceful state then you are not at the mercy of events and our emotions.

How do you change your mood or state of mind?

It is actually very simple and you can really change it in an instant. As soon as you realize that you are in a bad state, the first thing to do is to recognise and acknowledge it. This correlates with emotional intelligence as emotional intelligence is Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others. You must be aware of what is happening. You can hold still for a moment and take a deep breath. Then you need to focus on something else.
You can start by using your physical body e.g. go for a walk, just calm yourself concentrate on breathing slowly and deeply. Change your location even just stepping into another room can help.
Then you need to replace your negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Most of the times when we hear or experience something that upset us our thought processes are unrealistic and exaggerating. For instance when your kid comes from school reporting some bullying and you are upset. Your husband comes home and asks: what is wrong?, you burst into tears and says, everything is wrong. Is that actually true? No, it is not. There was an incident at school which upset your kid and yourself and that is what is wrong. Everything else is still fine. The house did not burn down, your kid will be ok, you will be ok. You just have to find a solution. This kind of exaggerating thoughts will do nothing for a good state of mind.

So next time I will do a whole segment on thinking the right thoughts and positive thoughts instead of exaggerated untrue thoughts and very negative thoughts. That is a big part of creating a good resourceful state of mind.
There will also be more suggestions on how to create a happy state of mind.
