SWEET SCIENCE RADIO: 258

in radio •  7 years ago  (edited)

My time isn't measured in minutes, hours, or even years. Music has always acted as monuments of experience in my life in which I refer to. Recalling when and where I was as a song plays is just instinct for me. I search for those moments where music and setting combine into a magic combination that I will soon never forget. 7 years ago, I created a mix series for artists called DEBRISMIX

The concept came to me while watching the utterly destructive tsunami in Indonesia. I realized that value is subjective and it's based on timing and circumstance. What I may value the most at this very moment could quite literally become garbage in my neighbors yard after the forces of nature are set upon it. The name was to inspire Dj's/artists to create full length mixes of their favorite tunes that will always have value to the curator/dj. After all, essentially everything we physically own is debris passing us by. We can't take any of this with is when we die. It was to be looked at as an art project with the perimeters being those of music monuments described above.

After two years and several dozen super creative eclectic mixes by musicians all over the southeast, my now program director caught wind of what I was doing. He offered me syndication on Birmingham Mountain Radio which is the city's premier adult contemporary alternative FM radio station. Long story short, I learned radio really quick and created a brand called Sweet Science Radio and have been doing it ever since. We've now been on air for over 5 years. This is my latest episode:

Totally agree with your. There is so much we don't know about the brain but I have always been fascinated by "brain hooks", the way our different senses combine to help us remember things.

Smell seems to be the strongest of these and I often get flashbacks when I smell something like a new book but music is a strong one too!

I'm often transported back to my teenage years when I hear and old song playing.

And now as an old "new" musician I am finding my own music is an even stronger mind hook. Whenever I hear tracks from my first album I am instantly on holiday with my family again, doing the final checks to see if it is ready for release when I return home!

Music rules!!

Agreed! Good insight. I appreciate your thoughtful response.

nice post

Love it brother! Uv resteem

Quite a journey, music can make a difference to people's lives in many ways - I like the idea of dj's and artists creating mixes as something physical to have to as a kind of legacy of their work. I'll try and catch your radio content as well, very interesting. Nice share, I'm looking forward to more of your posts.

A pretty seemingly disparate mix of vastly different musical styles and influences feature in this, @sweetscience; I know that's nothing you don't already know, but to take it all and tie it together so seamlessly so that french polka mixed with a Caribbean island dub can flow into sitar melody focused downtempo trance - pretty fucking skillfully done, mate.

Also nice to read the story behind the composition, your journey to bringing the mixes of today together and why they now reach as many as they do.

Awesome share, mate, appreciate all you do.

Thanks!

Did enjoy your mix great job with the variety

Wow! Amazing story! I am going to check out your show... Just wanted to mention though, before I forget... I recorded 10 albums of original songs using Ableton Live... How do I submit some stuff? Here is a random one of mine... (I am a genre-hopper like Beck)

Put yo hands in the hair! I dig it. Just keep submitting songs to this page and we will dig through it.
