There are lots of uses for this knowledge, you just got to put on your thinking cap, if you don't already have ideas.
Most of this can be built in your garage with parts from any electronics house.
You may want to update from tubes to transistors, but that just makes the whole thing smaller, and use less electricity from your batteries.

I'm guessing the carpentry skills to build the plane itself are dying off.
I know I would be lost trying to get started, at this point.
I bet you can get a kit.

I used to want one of those but was scared to lay out the money for something I was prolly gonna crash anyway.. but I have played around with a drone.. those are fun

I would think that modernization would have taken place since those stories were written.
I don't think many people make things in their home workshops, anymore.
They are too busy trying to make a buck.
