With everyone in the last minute rush to get ready for Thanksgiving at least the weather on Long Island is cooperating today with just a lot of clouds and not much else. The satellite has us covered in clouds for the rest of the day. We are waiting for a cold front pass through which it will do late today and into this evening. Other than a few passing showers there really isn't much weather to worry about whether you are coming to Long Island or leaving it for Thanksgiving. Temperatures for the rest of the day will hold mostly in the 50s.
SATELLITE
For travelers probably the highest chance for showers will be well to our south where the regional radar is picking up on a solid area at midday moving east. Also late today showers will be passing to our north in Upstate NY and New England. Later tonight they will turn to snow showers especially in lake effect areas of Upstate NY. Nothing major is forecast from all this.
Thursday will be a day of sunshine and clouds with gusty winds to 40 mph at times especially during the morning hours. It will still be gusty in the afternoon and evening though off the peaks from the morning. Highs Thanksgiving day will be in the 40s. There are no showers of rain or snow forecast.
We continue to monitor a major winter storm in the Western US but we will be covered by high pressure for Friday and Saturday and for at least part of Sunday. Look for sunshine both Friday and Saturday with highs both days in the 40s and nighttime lows in the low 30s Friday morning and in the mid to upper 20s Saturday morning. Sunday brings arriving clouds with precipitation developing late in the day as the next storm draws closer to us.
There is still quite a bit of uncertainty with this as low pressure dies out over the Western Great Lakes and a secondary storm develops near the Delaware coast. Cold air is marginal at best at least at the start. The time of year certainly favors a cold raw rain developing late Sunday and lasting through Monday. Tonight on the Joe & Joe Weather Show we will be discussing all of this and more. You can watch it live from the Meteorologist Joe Cioffi weather app or on my Youtube Channel.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
