Some Lesser Known Facts About Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar started playing cricket at the age of 9 and played in various local tournaments.
He did not play in Under – 14 and Under – 16, due to lack of opportunities and started playing domestic cricket from the age of 18. Initially, he started as a fast bowler but later switched to spin bowling so that he could play more junior cricket.
He had an ACL injury in his right knee in 2014 that forced him out of the game for around a year.
Rajat Patidar’s family didn’t want him to pursue a cricket career and told him to get a degree and take over their family business; however, he later convinced his family to allow him to play cricket.
He made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh against Baroda in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy at Vadodara on 30 October 2015 and scored 60 runs in his debut innings and his maiden century in the second innings.
Rajat Patidar made his List-A debut for Madhya Pradesh against Saurashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Rajkot on 11 December 2015. He scored a half-century off 40 balls on his List-A debut with a strike rate of 132.50.
He played his T20 debut match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 8 January 2018 for Madhya Pradesh against Rajasthan at Raipur. He scored 38 runs off 26 balls with a strike rate of 146.15 including 3 fours and a six.
Rajat Patidar was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction at his base price of 20 lakhs.
Rajat Patidar impressed team captain Virat Kohli and RCB batting consultant Sanjay Bangar with his batting skills at a four-day conditioning camp for uncapped players.
Rajat Patidar made his IPL debut on 9 April 2021 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians and made 8 runs.
Rajat Patidar went unsold during the 2022 IPL auction; however, RCB acquired him midseason for Rs 20 lakhs after Luvnith Sisodia got injured.
He was set to marry in May 2022 but postponed his marriage to play in the 2022 IPL season. He later got married on 7 July 2022.
In RCB’s eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on 25 May 2022, he scored 112 runs not out in 54 balls helping RCB win the match.
He was ruled out of the 2023 IPL season due to an Achilles heel injury.
He made 22 runs in 16 deliveries during his ODI debut against South Africa.
In his debut test series against England in 2024, he played 3 matches and scored 63 runs at an average of 10.50.
In March 2024, he and Avesh Khan were given the central contract by BCCI in the C-category. They became the first cricketers from Madhya Pradesh to get a BCCI central contract.
