Lyca Productions, the makers of Shankar’s 2.0, might be distributing Rajinikanth’s 2.0 as well, according to a report in The News Minute. Kaala is the story of an aging slum lord turned gangster, played by Rajinikanth, set in Mumbai.
Apparently it was Kaala’s producer Dhanush’s idea to strike a deal with Lyca as the latter is already distributing Dhanush’s other film Vada Chennai. It is believed that Dhanush felt that Kaala would get a wider release with Lyca onboard.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kaala will mark the second collaboration between Rajinikanth and him after 2016’s Kabali. Like his previous two films, Kaala too will have political overtones. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Ranjith, at a gathering in Madurai, said that the film would have political references. It may be recalled the Ranjith’s last film, Kabali, dealt with the rights of Tamils in Malaysia while his Madras spoke of the rights of Dalits in mainstream Tamil society.
