Do You Ramble?

In the social dynamics world, rambling is a cardinal sin.

Rambling will make you go from lovable to annoying really quick.

Humans love to ramble & hate to be rambled too.

If you think about it, rambling is a big part of our nature.

When a little kid is first learning words, they won't shut the fuck up!

Blabbering away.

In a cute way of course....

But as the kid gets older, they are met with a fork in the road.

Keep rambling or have a structured conversation?

If you look closer into your social interactions, people love talking more than listening.

-It's because talking is a subconscious act, you can do it on autopilot.

-But listening is a conscious act, you need cognitive effort.

Which is why when the kids get older, and they are met with the fork, many choose the life of a rambler.

Talking away.

But a select few choose a different road.

The road of a listener.

Although their road requires more work, they are more loved in the the process.

And as they are building their likability, they are listening to the words, experiences, and stories of others. This gives them more perspective & makes them more street smart.

Street smart = Social Intelligence

While the rambler has their ears closed & social intelligence at a bare minimum.

Now to be honest, ramblers aren't malicious, they simply lack social awareness.

People ramble due to:

Narcissism
Loneliness
Nervousness
They were raised around ramblers
The story means a lot to them

And in some cases, a little rambling is fine.

But when it goes from an isolated act into a generalized personality trait?? You are committing a social dynamics sin.

You can't control the moves of others, but you can control your own moves. Ask yourself, are you a rambler?

1. Making yourself aware.
2. Consciously focusing on the present.
3. Listening.
