emotional involvement?

in rambling •  6 years ago

Apart from decentralization cryptocurrencies brings something more to the table which fiat does not.

Do people come togehter to celebrate the Euro? Not really! Do people celebrate xx years of the Dollar? Nope! Do you see a lot of people walking around with a Yen Tshirt? Doubt it!

How many posts do you read about Steemfest? How many people did you see with a Bitcoin Tshirt? I can buy Monero merchandise!

People disagree over the blocksize of Bitcoin and so they fork it (probably to get rich as well)

Ripple fanboys apperantly spamming twitter and youtube the whole day about how they are going to the moon soon

For most companies you won`t see such emotional involvement. True there are some for example the console wars (sony vs microsoft) or adidas vs nike.

I find this interesting

I think this emotional investment is one of Steems biggest strengths or at least could be through the different communities and friendships which has been built here.

The tricky part is to get people care about others who they often only know their name they use on Steemit.

Most come for the money. Many realize it is not easy to make money here and leave others get sucked in and keep playing the Steemitgame.

Nobody says it is easy to become a youtube star or an instagram influencer. Building a following on twitter is surely no easy task as well but somehow I feel people come here often with wrong expectations. If they dont get fullfilled quickly they leave.

But if you make friends, join communities and realize there are more people with the same intrest you come back as it is like visiting some friends.

True Steemit was a lot more fun when the prices were high. The atmosphere was better, everyone seemed to be in a good mood and engagment was higher.

What keeps me coming back is of course I want to leverage my stake by voting and posting. But also I want to see what others are up to.

I ve read a couple of times we just need a big influencer to join are platform and finally we will be exposed to the world.

While this might be true I think nothing is won if those people dont get emotinaly attached somehow to steemit.
Afaik Haejin was bringing in people to Steemit, which sounds great but I further read they also only voted for their master and did not engage at all which makes it way less great.

If steemians will just persevere here and do their jobs like whales curating, dolphins making content and curating their commentators, and small fishes commenting the steem economy will grow @flipstar

I was a small influencer on other social media platforms with 100k followers and left that scene a year ago, I plan to go back as “attention” is very important in marketing. However, decentralized social media will be the future and I’m here on steem for the long haul! 💪🏼🙌🏼💯

Agreed, youtubers/influencers won't do much here. We had them before, nothing really changed much to be honest.

Steemit =/= Steem

Apart that I can agree to most. :)

Steem is a beautiful blockchain, so infrastructure! You could do many things with it.
But then people think: why? why should I work with my time, money, efforts, life, just to make other people with a bigger stake rich? (for example steemit inc and its ninja mined stake..)

So yeah. We have some great thinkers on this platform. Decentralization is key.
The masses can get the informations. We are on a blockchain. Everything is safed.
We will see where this will go. ;)
