What is the purpose of life? I have been wondering for quite some time now. Why are we here? Is there a deeper meaning to our existence? Or is it just by chance that each of us ended up being where we are? How to define a meaningful reason to this consciousness that we possess? I mean if life and its continuation was the point, why be endowed with this self awareness? For all practical purposes, we could have been just as conscious as the cat or maybe the amoebaand and and managed just fine. The virus are doing pretty good as well. So why this little bit of extra for us? Are we really special or is it just that we are part of a spectrum with only those below us visible to our senses. The monotheistic God theory sounds pretty exciting as we humans are given a privileged position in it. And we have always cherished being special, just the way we are wired. But my skepticism towards that rises from observing the history of the past few centuries when science has been trampling on these privileges we assume for ourselves. The more I look at it, the more I feel that we are not special. In the grand scheme of things, whatever that may be, we seem just like a variable, albeit with maybe a few more degrees of freedom than those other life forms. And all of it is attributable to this little extra bit of neocortex that we possess. So why do we have that? Chance? Privilege?
