Thank you to @kristyglas for organising this wonderful activity. You may still have time to take part - here's the post address : https://steemit.com/artzone/@kristyglas/-s6pgfajwgs

I have many collections really and my daughters describe me as a hoarder. I'm not going to show my craft book collection, my postcard collection, plastic ring collection, aluminium can tab collection or button collection. Unfortunately everything is scattered across boxes.

Today I'm going to tell you a bit about my collection of Studio Ghibli films. I have found that people are either acquainted or not acquainted with the films, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata (who sadly died this year).

My interest started as a child when a Chilean channel showed the series Heidi dubbed to Spanish (of course). We watched the whole thing as a family and marvelled at the animation and learnt the song.

Years went passed and as my children grew up we began to notice games, anime, manga on the net and press and still sang the Heidi song .

Then a friend just in passing mentioned they'd seen Spirited Away. We ordered it online and the rest is 'history'. That must be well over 10 years ago. When a film is found or has come out I put it on my wish list and I get it :D

Many apologies for the 'not so great' photo. I wanted to show where it actually is (near the ironing board).

As I explained to @kristyglas, I find the dialogue in the films is often rather 'stiff and unnatural' (to me anyway). I just admire the way the landscapes are rendered and the recycling of characters :D The stories normally include an ecological message too (or so I interpret). I don't actually have a favourite film. I do like bits of each and we normally refer to films or use voices and dialogue from the films - I am sure everyone does :D One of our wishes is to be able to visit the Ghibli museum one day.

Incidentally, I have to confess that I have never been able to watch Grave of the Fireflies.

I love 'Spirited Away' and 'Ponyo' and 'Nausicaa' and most of the ones I have watched. Like you I haven't watched 'Grave of the Fireflies' because I think it will be too sad.

I particularly like the way the insects were drawn and animated in Nausicaa, @gmatthe2... Actually, we also tend to sing the song... so I'd better not get started on that one :D

Me too. A couple of fairly ill thought out attempts have also been made to make her glider in real life.

That would be so cool if it worked but it might upset a few big birds around here, @gmatthe2 (eg the red kite)

Interesting collection!

Of course I know "Heidi" and after reading your post I will have the song in my head for the next hours. I only hope I can refrain from whistling it in public ;)

Thank you, @muscara... Well I now got reminded of the Nausicaa song so that will be stuck for a bit :D

Cool collection. I am a little too old to have been into the anime craze. We did have a great collection of Disney tapes when the kids were little but I think we passed them along to family for nieces and nephews

Thank you, @steven-patrick. My daughters also had some Disney videos (but I've never been not so keen besides the Toy Story / Finding Nemo types. Mine have always liked the Mulan / Pocahontas songs :D

Yay, thank you, @steemitboard... nearly didn't today ... but I've just managed to post a new one !

Oh wow, nice collection there @cryptocariad! Are those DVDs? I always have a problem of not being able to watch them after a while, either because the player doesn't play or the DVDs doesn't play. Do you have that problem? I still have video tapes with fungus growing inside haha. Studio Ghibli films and works are really cute, I have heard of Spirited Away and Heidi but have not watched it yet. Maybe I should, now that you mentioned it :)

They're all DVDs, @marblely. We can't watch Blue ray and our machine is also quite temperamental !
I'd start with the film. Heidi was quite a long series ! :D
We also have a few videos we can't part with actually... I can easily forget about them, but @mivstar is interested in film so we're keeping them just in case - did I hear 'hoarding' he he...

Oh Heidi is a long series? Ok ok, Spirited Away first then :D
Hehe.. oh how we love to hoard keep things for their sentimental values :)
