Police arrested a 14-year old boy from Osaka perfeture in Japan for allegedly creating ransomware. The high school student, who was arrested, is suspected of combining free encryption programs to create ransomware, which makes computer files inaccessible unless a ransom is paid, the sources said.

The student admitted of creating this on Jan 6 and uploaded it to an overseas website where lured people into downloading his files using social media. The ransomware created will lock infected computers and demand payment in Japanese currency. However no financial loses have been incurred according to the officials.

The arrest was made after WannaCry ransomware infected computers in more than 150 countries and demanded payment in bitcoins. However the officials informed that this incident is not related to WannaCry ransomware attack.

The student who created this ransomware told the police that he created it to become famous(bragging rights at school). He must be a smart kid, but used his skills for bad purpose.
