Steem price is down, the feeds are empty.. or are they?

in rant •  6 years ago

I really really wish I could give you a deep analysis about the current situation, the human nature and everything else. I wish I even would have something to say. Anything!

Well of course I have. I'm just hoping everyone who's not interested to read will now skip reading the rest, maybe scroll down through the possible photos and then leave. I wouldn't want to waste anyones time, making people I have anything meaningful to write.

That's the secret of Steemit (or should I say Steem, as less people are using Steemit nowadays), the meaningful content. Not just any content, but meaningful one. Whatever if meaningful content for every single individual is a different thing, but as long as the content has some meaning for us, we can enjoy.

This is actually what I'm happy about. I see still a lot of people posting well thought, good, meaningful posts even though the Steem price is down. I should start doing it more too, the posting I mean, but now as I haven't had time to focus on posting that much, I've been reading posts of others a bit more again.

Also partially noticing that there is plenty of crap content around. Which leaves me with 0 reactions to some posts.
It doesn't mean I haven't read them, don't worry.
But still with most posts, I can admit, I haven't read them. Most of my online time is at work and as I've started in a new position and I mostly don't have time to focus on reading long posts from Steemit nor focus on creative work to post myself.

One of the reasons I'm writing this is to basically thank the community. Those who are following me and are still active, even though the price is low, I'm glad I see activity and life around here. People are still doing this and I'm quite sure it's not for the money, as the rewards are lower and lower every day. Huge amounts of SP are under bots and fewer people are reading articles and interacting.

What's the thing which is keeping you all here? What is keeping me here? I'm not only because for the community, as I could always have other options to interact with people. My secret love around here is to have my own, small corner of creativity - my own and to follow the creativity of others.

So if you have any artist of any kind to recommend to me, just leave their username on comments. I'll give 100% upvotes (which are not worth much) if I like them, a smaller upvote if I don't like them. A flag if I just dislike you.

Keep up the good work everyone. Bring me more joy!

Here you go, a sunset photo for your delight.
Is this a reference to the "sunset" of Steem? Steemit?
Can engeer think through art? Hmmh...

Finding, reading, upvoting content isn't the biggest problem, there is still enough great content out there that is undervalued. From my perspective, writing valuable and engaging comments is one of the things that lack tremendously, whether Steem is up or down.

I think finding the undervalued great content is difficult. At least great content I truly and really like.

However, engaging with comments is typically somewhat lacking. People tend to make conversations only in high payout posts, hoping the author is a whale and will notice them. The less power one has, the more unlikely he's to get better comments than "upvote for upvote".

"What's the thing which is keeping you all here?"
Passion. Few people that I like. Inspirations. Models. Optimism. Curiosity.
I have never been outside of Lithuania and before steemit my connection with foreigners was basically limited to occasional comments on some let's plays. So I guess that this place also has some symbolic/ sentimental value for me.

few artists I would recommend are:
@reinhard-schmid
and
@whornung

@redbeardguy writes interesting things.

How did I forget to reply on this?

Thanks, they seem to be quite good! At least on the pieces I quickly checked.

I've never been inside of Lithuania and before Steemit my connection with Lithuanians was basically limited to.. well.

No Lithuanians back then.

Steemit is a wonderful platform to be in contact with people from other nations.

When you meet them outside, you rarely take any contact. If you have, you don't go very deep.
Here you can see how similar we are.

Or different.

I sold my soul to blocktrades when I joined and now I am unable to leave, ever.

I am forced to keep posting, adhering to certain quality standards. Forever. And ever.

Please help me.

🅿🅻🅴🅰🆂🅴

Did you say "Blocktrades"? Do you mean.. "Satan-Soul-Trades"?

This is what you get by fiddling with the devil!

... Damn, should have read...

The small print

I see what you did there.

btw I'm the best husband of the year because I brought my wife some chocolate without her asking for any.

...posting on fb where I get 6000 views and posting on steemit where I get 6 views ...steemit posting for me is like some kind of exercise as I don't ad any comments or thoughts on my fb posts, kind of training that might come out useful some day.

A very good point. On Facebook it's actually much easier to find interesting things and to be found, but as odd it is, sometimes it's a pleasure not to be seen but still be in public.

...the famous "alone together" feeling

I'm Finnish and we usually enjoy being alone, but we still miss other peoples company.

So we might be really happy of hanging around in total silence with another person without disturbing each other. That's a wonderful way to enjoy other peoples company.

I've been in Steemit only for about eight months now, but I've seen a lot of people come and go. Those who have stayed indeed are not here because of the money. Instead, I think we're here because of the sense of community, it's really rewarding to write something you're passionate about, and then discuss about it with others. At least I love to help others, and if even one person benefits from the posts I'm writing, I feel happy and content. It's true that there's a lot of crap content around here, but you just have to look through it, there's also so much good and valuable content on this platform!

I'm sorry for not knowing any artists to recommend you, but if I'll come across someone with exceptional content, I'll let you know! By the way, that's a really beautiful sunset photo!

... eight months now? What but... I still remember when you were brand new and fresh. How can you have been 8 months already?

I'm glad you have stayed. I have enjoyed your content even though I rarely have commented on it (sorry).

And thanks. It's fine even though you can't recommend any artists, but I enjoy the photo too :) Our sun is the best.

I know, these past months have flown by so quickly! But I'm glad I've stayed too, Steemit has given so much for me. :)

Haha, no need to apology about that, and even if we'd love to stay on Steemit 24/7, we all have other duties in our lives as well, we cannot have time for everything!

It's also lovely to see that you've stayed here, I guess this platform has had a lot to give to you too. Have you had any breaks since you joined in 2016?

Well... as now I'm replying after 9 days, I can admit I've had pauses. Shorter and longer pauses, but pauses nonetheless. I'm not a big enough Steemit lover to be consistently active here all the time, but I like this too much to leave this completely!

I'm not even stressing about posting, as I'm usually checking posts without paying attention to anything else.

my feeds are whack right now. we are dealing with fewer contents, low quality content making the bulk of these fewer contents, low price and engagement. if I am not making anything at least I should be blessed with something nice to read. rants

What's the thing which is keeping you all here?

basically trying to escape reality. I need my mind occupied and i seem to only focus when i am here.

You could try finding artists to follow. They're used to being poor, so they are still working hard on Steemit - especially because pain creates more art. ;)

funny enough I am one of those poor artistes who haven't created much lately. I can't remember the last time I wrote a short story or poem. busy with my thoughts I guess

Well it's always best time to write when you have thoughts.

Try writing with zero thoughts - that's a real challenge.

that would be the time to rest. one can't constantly give without feeling grained. People tend to give out without taking in. as an artiste you must enjoy other art forms while you engage in your creative progress asa means of maintaining your balance.

Well what can a man do but write? If I can write poetry and prose on facebook why can't I do it here too? No one is paying me over there. I get basically the same reaction over there e.g wow, excellent writing etc.

When you say artist do you mean fine artists, graphic artists or do you mean those who are in the arts e.g performing arts, fine arts, literary arts, etc?

Any kind of art. If it sucks, it's ok too.

I don't like all kinds of art though, but it's not important either.

Luckily we can use this as a wonderful platform for art and self-impression. It's kind of relaxing when nobody "from real life" knows who I am on Steemit.

😂 possibly a highly sought after artist on the outside eh? That's good. I am still struggling with my poetry though. I don't know if that counts as art but that is all I have.

Well they say poetry is art. Art is not only visual art, but art of words and such. Poetry sucks

What was that?

Funnily enough, I have stopped posting that much because I can't seem to find good content to write or post. I feel judged if I want to post something "bad" or not good enough. Sigh.

Well luckily we are not objective about what's good or not. What you think is not good enough might be wonderful for someone else.

As long as you're not posting plagiarism or other truly bad stuff, you should be safe.

Where else am I gonna share my pictures?

I'm coasting a bit on momentum now, to be honest. Fortunately I found my "regular job" just before the downturn so now I can enjoy this place as a social and creative outlet, and not worry too much if I miss a day or three. I'm glad you're still sharing here when you can.

Oh man, replying to all these comments is a hard job..

I've been mostly hanging around on Steem.chat when "I don't have time to post", so I could have more time on Steemit itself though. But in the chat, nobody cares if you talk shit...

You could share your pictures to your neighbors. Just sneak behind their door in the middle of the night and slip the photos in.

A soft reminder :)
My posts are not long!

.......I mostly don't have time to focus on reading long posts from Steemit nor focus on creative work to post myself........

A soft reminder:
A man rarely brags about "it's not long" ;)

Even in this downturn folks like these are still about. How tiresome

Well maybe they're just being super smart, trying to get a lot of Steem while it's still cheap ;)

Now instead of an upvote, you received a downvote.

Why do you think this happened?
