Making my mark

We get our thumbs marked to prevent duplicate voting

On a different note, yesterday was general elections day in South Africa. Although most of my life has been characterised by political apathy, the last few years have been a game-changer. Our country is now so broken by corruption and mismanagement that we are at the point where even the electricity supply is compromised and I fully expect more blackouts when it is colder and there's more strain on the electrical grid.

The voting process itself was smooth, I walked in and out of the polling station because it was already late and most people had been and gone and the only delay was due to the fact that I couldn't use the station that I am registered at, because my bike decided to pick this particular moment to run on only one cylinder and I ended walking to the one down the road. No-one's fault but my own, I was aware that the spark plugs needed changing but had been too lazy to do anything about it. So tomorrow morning, it will be off to the spares shop for a set of spark plugs. Sigh...

We should start getting results in tomorrow and it's my sincere wish that the party who brought us to the brink of catastrophe finds itself out of power. Between the lack of electricity and general collapse, tragedies such as the Life Esidimeni Scandal have convinced me that the ANC is utterly complacent and unfit to govern.
It's also clear that many others feel the same way. Change is in the air and it's likely that our province will change hands politically. Crypto-spaces like WeKu and Steemit have introduced me to many Venezuelan people and my country doesn't seem all that different in many ways.

I hate elections but sometimes we have no other choice than to have to vote and expect something better will come... so far that "something better" is not here in my island... yet! 😅

Yeah, us too

At first glance, it looks like they hit all voters on their thumbs with a hammer. "That'll teach them."

I was thinkin the same thing.. lol

Probably not, but you have a point 😉

That's what I thought too!

Exercise your civic duty and elect credible leaders that will move your country forward.

Problem is, there aren't any credible leaders

Unfortunately, now many countries are affected by strong corruption.
Elections are just pro forma. The one who counts votes always wins.
They can write themselves any result that they need.

That's true

Isn't the ANC the biggest party with the most support?

Yes, but it's clear that they don't care about their constituencies

So you vote then they hit your thumb with a hammer? Just kidding though the mark reminds me of bruising that happens when you miss a nail.

Do you require any kind of identification to vote?

yes, you need your bar-coded id document. And to be registered as a voter

What is this ID document?
