A Comprehensive Analysis of This Week's Rap Challenge

in rapchallenge •  7 years ago  (edited)

Submit your Rap Challenge entry and want some critical feedback?

@chiefmappster ‘s weekly comprehensive analysis of the Rap Challenge aims to provide the Steemians who put in their hard work, time, soul, and resources into writing, recording, and releasing their Rap Challenge entries.

rapchallenge.png

You all put so much into these entries, I feel the least I can do is provide the most value and feedback I can. Besides this critical feedback, I also sent 1 SBD to every Steemian who submitted an entry on the Official Rap Challenge Thread. It’s just another way of me showing my thanks and appreciation for the work, time, soul, and resources you put into your entry.

If you don't know what the Rap Challenge is, it is a Steemit Music movement hosted by @rondonson and has a weekly prize pool distributed to the top five (5) artists each week. These artists choose one of three instrumentals and post a video with their best rhymes. The panel of judges consisting of @rondonson , @jphenderson , and @tuck-fheman score each contestant on three categories: (1) flow, (2) lyrics, and (3) delivery/energy.

I am no longer officially judging the Rap Challenge as I am focusing on running the Beat Battle League, the @spl, @ocd , and the other projects on and off Steemit I am apart of. But that doesn’t change really anything in front of the scenes for you all. I will still be actively involved in the Steemit Music community, interacting with as many members as I can, and valuing the absolutely incredible entries you all bless us with for the Rap Challenge.

My main goal is to bring as much value as possible to the artist here on Steemit by providing unbiased, critical feedback. In my experience with helping artists, I have learned sometimes being too close to an artist can skew your critique of that artist.

That being said, here is my comprehensive analysis of this week's Rap Challenge contestants. Artists are scored on a scale from 1-5 with 5 being the highest. I also included a image of the judging score sheet at the end of this post for added transparency.

ARTIST #1: @verbal-d

@verbal-d always brings his best every week to the Rap Challenge. The problem is for the other rappers is that his best keeps getting better ever week. This guy is rapidly progressing at a rate so fast it is absolutely an inspiration to see. Just when you seen the best of @verbal-d , he comes the next week with someone like this that absolutely blows everything out of the water.

Are you freakin kidding me @verbal-d ? How many times do I have to play this back to believe its true? This is literally one of the most original, epic lyrical performances I have ever seen. Have you scored as: Flow: 4.5 , Lyrics: 5.0 , and Delivery/Flow: 5.0 for a total of 14.50 points. Only dinging you .5 on Flow because my gut instinct tells me if you had a month to practice that your flow would be a perfect 5.0.

Thank you for integrating the Steemit community into your Rap Challenge community contest, it truly is a perfect entry in my opinion. Check out his post here: https://steemit.com/rapchallenge/@verbal-d/rondonson-s-rap-challenge-7-my-entry-hip-hop-steemit-community-original-song

ARTIST #2: @kaykunoichi

@kaykunoichi brings the heat and conscious lyrics in her second Rap Challenge entry. Whenever I hear you I think of the rapper the Brat and if she had a conscious twin sister it would be you. You absolutely bless us with your lyrics and rapping abilities. In this entry, kaykunoichi discusses everything from chemtrails to xenophobes in a truly amazing entry. Have you scored as: Flow: 3.5 , Lyrics: 4.5, and Delivery/Energy: 3.5 for a total of 11.50 points.

The thing that stood out for me from this week's entry @kaykunoichi is your lyrics. They absolutely blew me away. Every bar was legendary. And that is one of the step's to making a legendary track: have each bar in the track be legendary. Sounds so simple but a lot of musicians overlook this. You did not. "Don't let your minds be underutilized like hemp fields. I hope my deadly lines don't go over your heads like chemtrails." I cannot think of a better two finishing lines so far in the Rap Challenge.

I would just rehearse your entries in front of a mirror a few times so you can see how you perform your lyrics. You can improve the energy and flow of your rapping just by changing facial expressions and breathing, which you can observe when practicing in front of a mirror.

Thanks again for your time, hard work and dedication. Check out her entry here: https://steemit.com/rapchallenge/@kaykunoichi/steemit-rap-challenge-kunoichi-week-7

ARTIST #3: @eddiebxxxx

@eddiebxxxx harnessed this Timbland beat to its fullest potential. Destroying your pre-determined thoughts by grinding out this week's Rap Challenge entry. "They came to me, ironically I travel freely for knowledge." I see you homie, they came to me too. Like you said "[they] don't even know who the joke is on."

Have you judged as: Flow: 5.0, Lyrics: 5.0, and Delivery/energy: 4.5 for a total of 14.50 points. You really did an incredible job with this entry in my eye's, I only dinged you with your Delivery/Energy because my gut instinct tells me if someone recorded your submission for you it would be a perfect 5.0.

Thanks again for all you do for this community, you elevate everyone to a new level with your presence (presents). Check out his post here: https://steemit.com/rapchallenge/@eddiebxxxx/eddie-bxxxx-rapchallenge-week-7

I have you judged as: Flow: 3.0, Lyrics: 3.5, and Delivery/energy: 3.0 for a total of 9.50 points. Did you make this after drinking a couple bottles of "Merlot, maybe a Pinon."? :) loving the wine infused lyrics and maybe that's why your flow and delivery was off from last week. Still an killer entry nonetheless my dude, keep doing great things.

You set the bar up high for your future entries with this one. They lyrics were top notch in my opinion, just need to finetune and progress your flow and delivery. Man, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes judging all of these MC's. Everyone is so close on skill level, knowing that we have to deliver to give each other some healthy competition. Love these analysation posts.

Rightttttt its such a wild thing to experience. Because out when I judge in my offline world not every entry is this quality. That tells us something about the Steemit community thats for sure.

And thank you my dude, I appreciate that means a lot people appreciate the work and time I put in. Appreciate you

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for your efforts!

You're welcome buddy glad you appreciated it. Made my night buddy thank you

I think you forgot to put in my points too xD Thanks for the hard work as usual though!! This week, everyone was on their A-game.

Private message me my bad I was tired haha spent like 5 hours on this

Thanks for the review. I been traveling so it's hard to get something done. Hopefully I can get one finished before I leave this week.

You're welcome man and heck yeah looking forward to content from you whenever it comes.

Thanks for the advice and 1 SBD!! With all these rappers and lyricists we should write a track about steemit?

Heck yeah that's an epic idea. Let me know when you do I ll support it for sure buddy.

But you're welcome glad I could bring some value to ya :)

Thanks for your kind words/feedback!! It was a lot of fun to be able to participate. I am looking forward to reading your future reviews!!!

You're welcome :)

I am glad I could help out, really appreciate your words means a lot to me.

@chiefmappster one love my man! It's a challenge to spit a one minute freestyle without using pre-thought-of ideas.. Next week I'm gonna try something different.. As much as Freestyling is my passion I might give it a bit of thought and maybe ask for some topic requests from the community.. any ideas?

I would rap about that radio show you do in Mongolia or did I hear that wrong in your rhyme because I want to know about that. But another suggestion maybe why you joined steemit. Like what got your attention

Appreciate your style, I love 90s hip hop. We got a roster of 90s hip hop artists coming onto steemit here when the time is right :)

I did an online hip hop show here in Malaysia for 4 years, recently did a sports show with some rhyming as well.. Thanks for the topic ideas I'll fit at least one of them in!

You're welcome buddy.

And damn thats freakin sweet. You got that worldy experience. Should give ya plenty to rap about ayyyyy

Another great analysis, and thanks for 1 SBD!!!

Thanks buddy and you're welcome.

Thanks again for the time and effort you put into your entry #PrayForVenezuela :)

As always thanks for the detailed analysis. I shot some whaleshares your way!!!

O shit no way thank you my brother. Means the world to me that you appreciate it. good looks my dude

Appreciate it, my bitshares is chiefmappster-paul you the man

I used the whaleshares to upvote your post.

Haha my fault sometimes i read to fast. Heck yeah thank you I was wondering about that my dude

On another note what is the best way to interview you for Leaders of Steemit

I'm going to hop on the discord channel. I guess if you want to do a video chat I'm all for it. Just got to coordinate.

Sounds like a plan bud

I'm on the whaleshares discord. Is there a separate discord for the rap battle? When will the next one be?

Yeah its Whaleshares Radio. I will invite you to the Dreams Come True one as well.
