Rap Day #21: Rough Soul - Goldlink (Feat. April George)

Continuing the pattern, today I am writing about another song brought to you by Colors. DeAnthony Carlos a.k.a. Goldlink is an American rapper from Washington D. C.. His interest towards hip-hop surfaced when he was 19 and now, he is poised to become the DMV's biggest musical expert. At least when it comes to his mix of house, R&B, and rap. For those wondering, DMV stands for "DC, Maryland, and Virginia". He is very proud to represent the DMV and he is also proud of the music being produced in the area. Since his debut in 2014, he has released several acclaimed songs such as "Dance on Me", "Crew", and "Spectrum". Among them, "Crew" stands out for earning him a Grammy nomination. For some reason, when listening to this song, all I can picture is a talk with good alcohol and old friends about past loves.

I personally hate how many artists have been sucked into making shallow and basic trap. And apparently Goldlink and I have that in common: "You know, because the music I make wasn’t a thing here. The area was infatuated with trap, so I seen a lot of great rappers compromise they art trying to fit into what the status quo was, and I never was going for that shit." (Goldlink, Noisey). It only makes me like him more.
