Rap Day #9 The Avalanches - Because I'm Me

Rap-philians,

The Avalanches is an electronic music group from Melbourne, Australia. Even though they are not rappers by definition, in this song we can find some great lines being spit. "Because I'm Me" always brings me back to middle school and the overwhelming sensations of falling in love for the first time. Not knowing what to do, how to approach it, or what the hell to do with those sensations. It is all best summarized by the following scene from "Love Actually". "Worse than the total agony of being in love?"

Just like the kid from Love Actually, in the Avalanches' video, a kid is desperately trying to find a way to get the attention of the woman with whom he has hopelessly fallen in love. The difference between these kids and me was simple. The kid from Love Actually learns to play the drums while the kid from this music video does a sweet sweet dance. When I was in middle school I had no plan, unlike these kids! Maybe that's why that first love slowly withered away without it ever turning into an adventure. When younger, I could have learnt a thing or two from them! Anyway, without further distractions, here is "Because I'm Me" by The Avalanches.
