I was a child who is addicted to console games. I do not know exactly how many thosands of hours i spent by playing them. Atari, Sega Mega, PlayStation and computer games at last.
I enjoyed with 8bit - 16bit games more than actual ones as a gamer. We almost reached virtual reality but there are still a crowded number of people smiles when they remember Mario Games.
Regarding it, I made a small research and found 2 results:
- RetroPie
- Lakka
I use single board computers for years and Raspberry Pi has a special place for me. Raspberry Pi Zero(rpi0) was the best device price / perfomance for the Retro Game Console project.
I tried RetroPie but it did not gave good results and did not satisfy me and then, my route is turned to Lakka.
Lakka was light programme which is more stable. Interface is lean and it is easier to find anything you wish to do. I shall not tell how to flash the firmware SD card. It is easy with Etcher. After it, I searched for retro game i played when i am a young child. Thanks to God, ArcadePunk has a huge archieve and it is open to anyone who has internet.
I also downloaded the files and then, i had a small issue to load the games cause of my mistake. I was expecting that zip files can be read by Lakka but it needed to unzip. I copied unzipped files to USB stick and plugged to rpi0 and chose the file directory and send the command "scan file directory". It tooks time up to how many games you are trying to scan. Do not try to scan thousands of games at once. It is not a healthy way.
The result was perfect. Now, i am able to play the games like Virtual Fighter, Sonic, Mario, Double Dragon etc...
rpi0 did not heat much. Anyway it is good safety precaution to use heatsink. If you are a protective person, a tiny fan is enough.
Lakka has an update bug that downloads the files again and again on same version. Input option may be more clear. It is strange that RetroPie does that very easily but Lakka has many unnecessary details. Except the input options, Lakka is preference first when it is compared with RetroPie.
That is all for today, see you soon.
