Yes, I read lots of Books

in read •  7 years ago  (edited)

I read for a while each morning and most evenings. Yes, yes...I read your blog posts here on Steemit and other social media sites, but I also read books. 🤓 lots of books.

I am usually juggling 3-10 books at a time...nibbling and dabbling on some until I eventually finish or else decide they are no longer worth my interest, and devouring others entirely because they educate, entertain, or inspire me. I like old school paper books, but really I prefer the ease and space savings of digital downloads. So, mainly iBooks or kindle for me. I also like to have a few audio books for times I’m walking across town or driving for a while and need inspiration or mindfulness.

Here is a screenshot of the iBooks I’m working through right now:

“The Artist’s Way” is presently what I read first thing each morning. Actually, that book has me doing “morning pages”, a practice of writing 3 pages long hand on paper 1st thing each day to spur creativity. Then I read a few pages of he book. Good stuff that book is. 🙏🏽

“Crazy Rich Asians” i bought to try as surface-brainless evening entertainment, but I couldn’t get into it. It’s too surface-brainless for me. Instead I’m Digging “The Handmaid’s Tale” for such purpose.

“Tarot of the Spirit” after being inspired for years by the incredible Tarot art of @reinhard-schmid 🙌🏽

Trying a sample of “The Ultimate Medicine” per the recommendations of the wise @acesontop

I don’t remember what inspired me to download “The Mind Within the Brain” but psychology and even neuroscience fascinate me. Haven’t started it yet.

I adored David Dieda’s 1st book, “The Way of the Superior Man,” but so far “Finding God Through Sex” had been good, but feels a little cheesy. I mean I know it’s doable...I HAVE found god through sex, but this book is a little too “how to-ish” for me to really feel his message on this one.

If something isn’t available in iBooks I go to kindle. @sean-king and I share a kindle file and here are our most recent reads:

I believe “Freedom” was written by a Steemian? (Yes, @adamkokesh) I downloaded it per @lukestokes recommendation but haven’t started it yet.

The Pinker books are Sean’s purchases. Perhaps He will recommend them as books I might like, but I can usually just ask for a summary of books that he reads. I’m very lucky to have 24/7 access to Sean. (I’m not kidding. I really am a very privileged human in this way.)

“Vital Points” was written by Steemian @kyusho . I am eager to read it but will wait to finish a few others before beginning more.

“Slave Girl of Gor” I’m reading for a second time. The Gor books are notoriously long and wordy, but wow there are some powerfully arousing scenes in there. Arousing for me at least, and that all I’m looking for sometimes.

“The Raven & The Aspen King” is the 2nd book of a trilogy written by my dear friend, Monika Carless. She was on Steemit at first as @paris-loves-her but sadly lost her login data. :/ I loved the first book in her series, but have struggled to get into this one. I keep meaning to try again. It’s unique...polyamory love triangle, elements of BDSM, paganism, and time travel. It has a lot going on! Sometimes it’s hard to tell which character is sleeping with whom, or in which era! 😆💗

“The Ethical Slut” I’m also reading for a second time. It’s good! It makes sense. When I practice periods of open relationship sluttiness I’m very honest and ethical about it 😂, but there are only so many hours in the day and not enough lately for such shenanigans for me. Maybe rereading it will inspire me to play around again one day...

So that’s it. I’d love to hear what you’re presently reading or what type of books interest you.

And thanks to @eveuncovered for inspiring this post with hers. 🙏🏽

I like reading. I'm so used to reading every day, I can't imagine living without a book. I like classical literature, but some modern authors are also good. I'm reading the Great Gatsby now. Once I heard the phrase that reading is like a sport, only for the brain. The brain is a muscle, and like any other muscle needs a load for development. And reading is what the brain needs.

I was into classical literature for a while too. Years ago when I first started reading for pleasure I loved to read the Bronte sisters...Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, etc. I liked that I had to read those books with a dictionary to look up words. “Flummoxed” is one word I learned back from those books and still find very useful. 🤗

I always get stunned when this kind of topic pops up - first I'm like

Yey, a human who reads, I am not alone in this world!

And then the discussion starts and it quickly becomes obvious that most of the people don't read at all. And what really bugs me is the excuses

I love to read I simply don't have time/energy/money...

How can one go through a year without a book is just beyond me. I haven't had one single day in the last 30 or so years that I haven't read for at least an hour.

And then I remember I don't really care, I open my reader and I'm happy again

Oh, yeah coodos to you for reading ;)

😹 that’s quite a cycle you go through...

Yay they read!
No wait...they’re just posturing.
...and full of excuses
Disbelief
Distain
Back to your books
Aaahhh...peace and happy alone again.

I love it. 😆 thank you for commenting. :)

It's not just people not reading, it's people in general, and me not caring and diving into books is just a safety switch so I don't spend my life screaming at everybody :)

Oh I LOVE this post. I am a mega book owl. I like knowing what other people are reading and generally walk towards people's bookshelves and and hang out there for a while when visiting homes with filled bookshelves.

You inspired me to create a similar post.

Thank you. Let me know when you post your list as I’d love to meander through it.

It’s unique...polyamory love triangle, elements of BDSM, paganism, and time travel.

I just mighr grab that after I get through my recent purchases :P

I hope you do. Please let me know your thoughts if you read it.

Just a quick tip: If you read Nisargadatta first, you can save lots of time, because afterwards you can't read all the other books anymore! 😀
This reminds me of the hilarious story with my ex-wife, when we met 20 years ago and back then I was reading "I am That" by Nisargadatta. She told her mother about the book, but she heard the book title being "I am dead", which led to very disturbing scenes, where her mother thought that I'm part of some death cult...
So beware of reading Nisargadatta stuff - this can seriously effect your life! 😀

Hi Eve. Seriuosly you can read more than one book at a time. I can't , I have them lined up but I have to finish one first. Maybe it's a male thing. I read books on true experiences from the second world war. I find them fascinating and Nelson de Mille books because I like the humor.

Hey love, you are a little lost now, this is not my post, but @steemed-open's, I just resteemed it.

Though I don't mind someone mistaking her butt as mine ;)

No problem. Just saw that. Thanks. Too may butts lol.

she also cant read more than one book at a time. she's using kindle for crying out loud

Hahaha I'm happy that my rant inspired you to share your reading, and damn the view of you reading in front of the fireplace, what a lucky husband you have ;)

Funnily, I just listened the Crazy Rich Asians, and I did listen it for the same reason you did, just some easy no brainer stuff. I've also read the Handmaids Tale years ago and that one I really liked, it's very dark in my opinion!

I resteemed this and damn my feed looks good with my spanking pic and your butt!! ❤️

Yes I can tell THT is going to be dark. Doesn’t usually bother me as long as it’s interesting and written well enough.

Thank you for Resteem and compliments! And geez, I actually love spanks. 😬 ☺️ what an image you’ve now planted in my mind.

Takes one to know one ;) good night!

Yes reading is the only way to educate yourself the love of reading is the best gift you can give yourself it's the only way to cure and irradiate illiteracy
Like they say knowledge is power if you want this power you can only get it through reading and readers are leaders let's read and make knowledge prevail
Thanks for sharing.

Freedom is a great read.It was written by @adamkokesh... future US not-President...

Thanks for tagging the author in your comment. I’ll edit my post to credit him properly. 🙏🏽👌🏼

You are encouraging me to read more, due to my demanding job, I lack in reading books these days. I must say in all honesty that is was the picture that made me enter your blog, but I'm glad I did. This is my first time on your page.

Whatever it takes to inspire and get my messages out. ✊🏽 I’ll keep doing my part to serve the community with more naked pictures. 😉

Love the freedom in the pic so much, nice!

Thanks 🙏🏽

Wow... gotta thank you for posting one of mine here!

It’s truly on my reading list. :)

Great work I read in bit on a down with that at the moment to much good conte on Steem but must make sure I read for an hour a day at least, there you go it writing must abide now ;)! I can only do one at a time but mix up the subject area, will list a couple of these also great work thanks 💯🐒

😊✊🏽

Great to do wish I did. I get home from work and get lost in Steemit. This needs to change 💯🐒

I love this! I used to read a lot but now I tend to find that I only have time to read people blog posts. I literally just stated my account so I still have some work to do to build it up but once I get the ball moving I am going to make more time for reading again! Thanx for the inspiration! ❤️❤️

Welcome to steemit and thanks for commenting. :)

You are so welcome! Thanx for being here and sharing your stories! Following you for more! 😘

Thanks for sharing you reading list. I've found that when I read in that position, it kills my back. :)

It hurts me to lie this way for too long as well. I flip about if I read for long...stomach, side, back.

wow ! cool post ;)

I have heard the same thing about Crazy Rich Asians, which is really disappointing because I own a copy and have yet to read it myself :'D I read a lot too but I could never read that many things at the same time, it really stresses me out to think that I'm in the middle of so many different books. Currently I'm really into reading non-fiction in particular and I just started Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer today. Really enjoying it so far!

Whoo...The ultimate medicine from Nisargadatta Maharaj. More than happy to see that on your list.
Another one from him that I read for three times in a row. Can't wait to read your opinions on that in a future post.
It is one of the books written in his latest years when he shined much more than eyes could see.

I watched a few short videos of him speaking per your recommendation. He was so clear seeing and spoke nothing but truth! I’m very grateful to have learned about him from you.

Glad to hear that. Every time I recommend his books to someone who actually reads them and appreciates the knowledge is a great achievement for me. I really felt the connection with that wisdom of his from the first pages read.
